Waiting for Christmas Dinner

While we are waiting for #1 son and DIL to arrive, we have been watching the world's largest - and possibly the longest - variety show which we recorded last week.

Schools Spectacular:

The event is the largest of it’s kind, and for the past 10 years has held the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest variety show – which is quite an achievement! This year, over 4,000 students took part in the production with 30,000 in attendance at the Entertainment Centre arena in Sydney to watch it live.

We've just returned home from our Christmas lunch. Our eldest son invited us to his beautiful partner's parents' home to join their family for a nice casual meal. He picked us up at our place and dropped us back here after. There was about a dozen of us all up and we had the traditional roast, 3 meats and all the vegies and home made gravy, followed by home made plum pudding and a delicious strawberry cheesecake. There were a few beers or wine consumed of course. All in all it was a great day enjoyed by all in the company of a very relaxed, friendly bunch of people, most of whom we hadn't met before but they made us feel very much like part of the family.

Sounds excellent Casper. We've just finished lunch (4:10PM) and done the cleaning up. Been taking pikkies of the seven-month-old, Kai.

This is an earlier one .....

Good blood lines, eh?

Jilly and I have just finished our loooong lunch, at 6pmish 4 hours, not our longest effort, but not bad.

We did the traditional, chook, seasoning roll, ham and roast veges and a pudd with custard. Luvverly day.

The wife and I went looking for a place to eat yesterday, as most places were closed. We ended up at Denny's of all places. We had about a 20 minute wait as they were packed. We ordered the Christmas dinner which included a large portion of turkey, corn, mashed potatoes with gravy, cranberry sauce, dressing and for dessert, a delicious slice of apple pie, all for $9.99. Coffee is now $2.09 a cup. A huge amount of profit in coffee now.
We both agreed that the meal was excellent and the busy waitresses were very pleasant. Ours got a double tip. But I do wonder if the waitresses are asked to volunteer to work on Christmas or if they are scheduled like any other time?

You'd be lucky to find much open here other than gas stations and charities offering freebie dinners to the homeless. There may be a few family shops that open but not too many places to eat, Maccas maybe? I haven't ventured out on Christmas day for years, too many lost tourists on the road looking for something that's open.
