Walgreen's Pushing Candy

Both Walgreen's and CVS are within a five minute walk for me and I usually frequent CVS. The last several times that I have checked out at Walgreen's the clerk always asks me if I would like their two for one candy deal added to my purchase and I decline. They have done this a number of time and get quite aggressive with their marketing. Today they were pushing Hershey Bars. It doesn't bother me at all but I got to wondering if the clerks were getting some kind of commission or incentive reward. I went to another Walgreen's across town just out of curiosity and same thing.

If I understood it correctly, Walgreens was being berated recently for removing it's corporate headquarters out of the U.S., in order to cut tax obligations. If true, I shall boycott their stores. imp

I haven't been to Walgreens in awhile, but I never experienced anything like that there. If anything they'd just ask if you found everything you needed, like they do in many stores.

I seldom go to Walgreens or CVS so I don't know what they are doing. I have noticed almost every store or fast food restaurant now asks you if you want to donate a dollar to this or that charity or do you want to add fries to your food order or whatever. I don't like people deciding what I should or shouldn't do so I always say no, even if it was something I wanted to do. I think it's something they are getting from their corporate headquarters and they are required to do.

I've noticed that some grocery stores now have "candy-free" check-out lanes. That's a boon for parents checking out with children. No more saying, "No you CAN'T have a candy bar." "No, no candy!" "I said NO CANDY!" "I'm not going to tell you one more time, put that candy back!" "PUT THAT CANDY BACK!!!" "JOHN EDWARD SMITH, IF YOU TOUCH THAT CANDY ONE MORE TIME YOU'RE GOING TO GET A SPANKING!" Somehow, beef jerky, batteries and lip balm don't seem to tempt them as much....

I go to WG for a couple of herbal products I can't get elsewhere, but most of their stuff is half again to double what the same thing would be in WM, so I don't really shop thre. I don't go to CVS at all for the same reason. Am immune to the "donate " requests.
