It's perfectly ok to modify to your health needs. Can no longer walk briskly. Am overjoyed I can walk at all, given the state of my "health." Doing the best I can, my mantra these days.

I, too, walked along with Leslie Sansone (not for weight loss - just for exercise). I still use her videos. When I started my weight loss journey, I was doing Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds, she has a ton of videos on the Tube.
My wife has a VHS from about 26 years ago. She started with Leslie when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately still cancer free. I converted the VHS to digital, then realized there were a ton more on YouTube.I, too, walked along with Leslie Sansone (not for weight loss - just for exercise). I still use her videos.
I used to walk 5 miles a day (2 1/2 in the morning and 2 1/2 in the evening). I was in great shape. I was a little younger too but that's besides the point. I gave it up about 20 years ago because I had a terrifying experience. Someone in a van was up to no good and stopped and followed me slowly as I was walking. This NPR story from last month says we need to get in 7000 steps of walking per day for maximum health benefit. A mile is only 2000 steps. I walk 2 miles a day most days and thought that was enough. None of the seniors I know personally have mentioned walking 3½ miles a day.
I can only imagine how scary that was for you. I mainly walk inside and have measured inside the house so I know when I've gone a mile. A well meaning member suggested I walk outside. I could, but it's been hot, and I really don't want interaction with neighbors and / or other people who are out walking (we have some who do). I'm fine stopping and talking with people I know if I see them in a store, but when I walk, I want to just walk and be left alone until I'm done.I used to walk 5 miles a day (2 1/2 in the morning and 2 1/2 in the evening). I was walking beside a cornfield with no place to run. I picked up my phone and acted like I was summoning help. Whoever it was didn't want to take any chances and took off when I did that. Had someone else been in the van with the driver, I could have been overpowered. I've rarely walked since and I loved walking. I enjoyed the fresh air and the scenery. It was out in the country. Since then I've just exercised and walked in place. I know I'm too old and out of shape to outrun someone now.

I live in a subdivision where a lot of people walk. It's a very safe neighborhood. I'm like you, I don't particularly like to exchange niceties while I'm out walking. I just like to walk and enjoy the surroundings. It seems customary out here that you wave when a car goes by or speak if walking past someone. To me that's distracting. I've got to where I will get on You Tube and follow exercises for seniors on it. They are free also. That seems to help a little.I can only imagine how scary that was for you. A neighbour asked to walk with us. There’s no way. The sidewalk or pathways are narrow for two people. He’s a slow walker and I don’t want to make small talk.
