WalMart beverage container deposit

I took beverage containers to WalMart to get the deposit, but their return machine wouldn't accept them. The store DOES sell that brand. The courtesy desk clerk wasn't at all helpful onky saying she couldn't accept them at the counter. How can I get the deposit?

Start by calling that Walmart store manager and explaining the situation. Next time you go, only take one bottle to the machine prior to checking that it works. If it doesn’t, they should at least put up a sign that it’s broken. And call the manager again.

The machine wasn't full or out-of-order, otherwise there'd be an ATTENTION warning on the computer display.

I did fire off an email to WalMart, but got the response that they only handle merchandise orders by email and suggested I call the store manager. The courtesy clerk already informed me that she was the last authority on this matter and she couldn't accept the cans.

I may just take them to one of those "nickleback" places that accepts all beverage containers.

Are you certain you paid a deposit? If you are, and you kept the receipts, show them to someone in customer service. If you didn't keep the receipt but you remember when you made the purchases, ask someone in customer service to look the purchases up for you. Their computers can do that.

Not all beverage containers charge a deposit.

Another thought.

If the containers are dirty or damaged enough so the machine can't read the barcode they are rejected as unredeemable and usually end up in a trash bin near the recycling machines.

You should be talking to the manager and not the customer service person. If the courtesy booth cannot help me I ask an employee to page the manager for me. No problems after that.

These are pristine containers. I didn't buy these - they were give-aways at the senior center. I did a closer look at them and didn't see any indication of a deposit required which is usually printed on the side of the container, so maybe they are non-deposit. Unusual for soda.

I tried at Nickelback today. It was 10:20 am when I arrived and it was closed (they are supposed to be open at 10am). Then I drove to another location that Google said was a bottle deposit place. A sign on the door said "FOR RENT". This is getting to be like a nightmare. A big bag of soda cans and no place to bring them.

You've probably spent more money on gas driving around trying to find a refund on the deposit for the cans than you would have received for the deposit.

And since they were free, you didn't even pay the deposit in the first place.

I think it's time to let those cans go, Deb.
