Warring Neighbours Have you ever had a problem with yours ?

The only time I had problem with neighbours was when we moved in Naval Married Quarters..when Dd had just turned 2 years old..

It was a top floor flat , with only 2 floors.. so we had one neighbour under us on the ground floor, who also had a small child and a really large German shepherd that barked at everyone going past their door..

In our flat the floors were concrete, and over that were tiles, covered by carpet.

The woman below was unhinged... she would storm upstairs to us, bang on the door like she was the police and demand that we stop our 2 year old from walking across the floor. She would be literally screaming..''Stop that kid making all the noise running across the floor''..

My DD could barely toddle , she weighed about 25 pounds ..but that didn't stop this women coming up almost every day screaming for her to stop walking across the floor.

My ex husband got us a transfer out of there after about 9 months.. and we left that woman to send her own husband and kids nuts !

I have had several experiences with neighbors from hell. One example was in the two story apartment building that we lived in before we bought our house. We lived on the first floor and had neighbors in the apartment above. They weren't the neighbors from hell, but the floors were really old and creaky whenever they walked around it was distracting. They were considerate and we had no problems. But when they moved out, another family moved in up there; a woman and a young man. They would entertain company loudly in the master bedroom which was right over mine, and always early in the morning.

Being in poor health, I would be woken by loud laughing and heavy footsteps. I never could rest because they seemed to be really popular; lots of people were constantly visiting; stomping up and down the stairs several times a day, with packages and bags. Then we started noticing that they had moved some extra people in including a small child who liked to race through the apartment at all hours.
We also noticed unsavory types showing up and having meetings in the parking lot in front of the building. The young man who lived there; I thought that he had a twin sister, then realized that it was he, dressed in women's clothing eating Chinese take out as he talked to someone in a car outside. The flooded our kitchen by putting plastic take out lids in the dishwasher, which clogged the drain in the dishwasher.

I didn't feel comfortable complaining, so I was glad when somebody else in the building alerted the landlord about the extra people. When they moved out, we asked to switch to the upstairs unit.

There are all kinds aren't there?

Yep I would call that neighbours from hell.. jeez , what a nightmare!

I love my music. I have directly discussed this with my neighbors. I have invited them to come to my door any time and to ask me to turn it down if it bothers them, which is never my intent. It's midnight here, and I'm playing Stockhausen's Stimmung. You need good neighbors!

Only twice, but one was a doozy.

We were living in Michigan at the time. We'll call him Blake, 'cause that was his name. He was a miserable old man who had gotten "into it" with just about everyone in the neighborhood. He was well known by the police, both by the fact that he constantly accused neighbors of doing things and was accused by neighbors of doing things.

When my late husband would come out on warm summer evenings (6-ish) to sit and softly play classical and folk music on his acoustic guitar, Blake would come out in his back yard with an accordion and not play it, just stand there at the fence and squeeze it back and forth discordantly. He wouldn't even be out in the yard when my husband started playing. He'd keep it up until my husband went in.

He unmercifully tortured the elderly couple on the other side of him, even though they were the nicest people in the neighborhood, loved by everyone. He would incite their nice tiny dog to bark at him, then complain to the police.

He hated anyone parking on the street in front of his house, so one day he painted a pretty impressive "no parking" area on the street, stripes and all, that covered the entire length of his property. When the police came and said he had to remove it, he told them WE had done it. The police didn't buy that, of course, and said he could either sand-blast it off or the city would do it and charge him for it. He reluctantly did it but still maintained that we were responsible for it.

He never parked in his driveway because he was afraid the pavement would crack but he constantly complained to us that our bushes that divided our front yard from his driveway were "too tall" as he couldn't see over them. The city had an ordinance that bushes that were by driveways couldn't be more than 35 inches tall and we kept them lower than that. Nevertheless, he was constantly out there with a yardstick and would call code enforcement anytime he found a leaf that was sticking out over the 36 inch limit.

He once came out and screamed at me as I was walking past his house. Apparently, I was "looking at his front porch." I guess I wasn't allowed to swivel my eyes in his direction.

I could go on for quite a while more, but the apex of the problems happened while we were on vacation. Apparently, someone came by one night and spraypainted "dirty words" in red all over the side of his white siding that faced our house. Of course, he called the police and said we had done it. We hadn't, of course. The police knew that we were on vacation (they liked you to register that with the station so that they would keep an extra watch on your house) and told him so. He countered that we had paid someone to do it for us.

He got laughed out of the station because there were only several dozen other suspects in the neighborhood when you came down to it (people he had tangled with). By "coincidence", our daughter's swing set was sprayed with red paint shortly afterward in the middle of the night. Hmmm, wonder who did that?

The only other incident was in Florida when the neighbors on either side of us were warring and we were caught in the middle. We were friendly with one side and civil with the other side. Both sides did things to each other (but not, thankfully, to us) and the police were often called. When we were asked by the police if I had seen what happened, but I was always blind and deaf. I seeee nothing.....I hearrrr nothing.....I knowwww nothing..... It was 50/50 with them and I WAS NOT GOING TO GET INVOLVED.

We have pretty good neighbors. The closest ones are a young couple with 3 boys who are pretty well behaved & fairly quiet for their age.

When I was a kid we had a guy that lived across the street that liked to put his nose in everyone's business. He was always there after the police was called on someone & told that neighbor that so & so had done it. That kept a rift between some people for a while.

It wasn't until he moved out that things changed & was different. One day, everyone realized that the police hadn't been called since he left. All of the neighbors stood about & discussed what had happened. One thing lead to another & after much talk, it was put together who the instigator of the block was.

I've been retty lucky with neighbours considering I've moved house 17 times...

One place tho' again a Married quarter, on a naval estate, this time a house not a flat.. we had excellent neighbours.. all the women were in the same situation, that all our husbands were at sea for months at a time, so we looked after each other. One time for example.. when my daughter was only a year old, I had to have day surgery, where they'd used anaesthetic.. I collected my daughter from one of the neighbours and went home with her. Put her to bed, and then the next thing I knew I was wakening up n the sofa, and a stranger was sitting in the armchair .

My neighbour hadn't liked the look of me when I went home, and commanded her brother to go and make sure I was ok.. he'd got there and found me unconscious on the sofa, and just sat there in case I got sick, or if the baby had needed attending to...

..but in amongst those neighbours and we all lived right next door to each other and across the road.. 2 door down from me was a woman who had a bunch of kids, and she never had any money.Goodness knows what she spent her money on, but we were all the same, none of us had very much money.. but she would feed her kinds by sending one of them to each house asking for something.. like'' eggs '' at one house, ''sausages'' at another and so on.. even cigarettes..

I have had a few for the most part things can be ironed out and not a issue but what seems silly to some have real reasons why things went badly.
A young woman neighbor who lived in house next door at 4 years ..... decided her lot was not big enough for her "landscape plan" so she ripped down a fence that was there for over 30 years to take a few feet of my property .....ripped up my landscaping as well ... she said she had a survey.... well the survey turned out to be faulty and the fact the property line was established by the fence for 30 years .... is a legal status of adverse possession.

We had to sue to get fence replaced where it belonged and never got landscape rocks she stole etc. She had 3 dogs that broke through her new fence (never was issue with the original fence)... dogs destroyed property and attacked our small dog . Turned her in to animal control who labeled dogs dangerous which requires a 250,000 bond or insurance rider in order for her to keep dogs

she drug lawsuit out even though we had all evidence on Video ....
so in end fence moved back not as good of fence as what was there but back to where it was she could not afford the lawsuit so turned it into her homeowners insurance company........... they wanted a fast settlement as they saw it was a loser she had to go to several lawyers and all told her NO way ......
She had to pay our legal fees ......fix things and then insurance promptly canceled her policy .......NO company will insure now for this was her willful acts of stupidity ........... her dogs had to go........... she went broke and her live in boyfriend who pushed her into these stupid moves left her ........ her house has been in half remodel for 5 years she cannot unload it is broke and and yells when she sees us that "we ruined her life" .

Oh wow, that was definitely a Neighbour from hell story !...what a nightmare !

Today in the news there's a story about 2 women warring over a lawnmower and a fence...

Neighbours' row which began over lawnmower spirals into high fences

Really stupid things to fall out over.. but some people have neighbours from hell.. have you ever had a problem with neighbours ?
In New York City, I had upstairs neighbors who would blast the music super loud and dance until maybe two AM on Fridays and Saturdays. They would finish each dance by stomping on the floor above us three times. We told the building manager and he responded by saying that they went to work every day. Well so did we and we never assumed that it gave us the right to stomp on the floor like an enraged buffalos until 3 in the morning.

We lived in a big old Victorian two family house. We had the second and most of the third floor. There was a kind of hippy band on the first floor. we got along well and when the band broke up we let the guitarist stay on our third floor until he found a place.
My parents were coming for a several day visit and I knew how my father felt about guys with long hair. It turned out that my dad and the guy enjoyed each other's company and became friends. It was a nice surprise.

No issues where I live now. A few years ago, I lived on a ferry-only access island in the Pacific Northwest. Had the weirdest neighbors ever. I would have company, and the guy (was a married couple) would literally stand outside with arms folded and listen to every word, stare, no clue why. I posted on Facebook husb and I were going to a small cafe on the island, and the neighbor and his wife showed up a few minutes after we did. Man made a weird statement about me wearing make-up, said he preferred his women without it. Very strange.

The staring and doing his best to intimidate us never ended. We only lived on this island for nine months, found the ferry unreliable, and decided to return to the state we came from. Made 20k on house sale so we did ok. Was really, really happy to get away from the guy. Ewww. Cringe.

Not easy to avoid thinking about revenge when under that kind of pressure. Makes me recall how as teenagers, our rock band rehearsed late into the night without any consideration for the neighbors. One woman, whose apartment was in the same building we were using, began interrupting our practice sessions demanding that we stop. All was relatively civilized until she resorted to calling our music noise. You see, the term "noise" deeply offended our drummer who became so enraged by that term, that the woman backed away intimidated.

The issue reached a critical point when after two gigs, we snuck into the building through a small bathroom window and some of the band members began playing pool, while I accidentally added to the noise when I nonchalantly leaned on this table and sent its massive top, which had not been secured to the legs, thunderously crashing to the floor. The lady called the building owner who showed up in a murderous mood and almost attacked our band manager who was the the drummer's father. But we weren't really doing it to bother anyone. Unlike those stomping people I mentioned, we mindlessly bothered unintentionally.

Your reply reminded me of a revenge story I read elsewhere. There was a young autistic guy who had neighbors from hell. There was partying, drug dealing, and loud drunken fights so that he could rarely get a good night's sleep.

The way that he described it, his apartment had a section of wall that adjoined the noisy neighbors side. This wall had a hollow section between the two walls, and down in this area, he placed a dead fish. He was able to stay on another side of his apartment, but the neighbors were treated to the ghastly aroma of decaying fish.

The smell got so horrendous that they soon moved out and the poor landlord was stymied as to where the hell that odor was coming from. While I felt a bit sorry for the landlord, he had ignored this poor guys complaints, knowing that he was autistic.

Only the once, a couple of years back. Guy moved in next door and seemed friendly enough. However, he chose to ignore the property boundary by riding his ATV onto my property almost daily.

We had words, a few times. However, he moved out a few months later and now all is quiet.

I should add... a few months later he wound up in jail and is currently awaiting trial for murder. Did I dodge a bullet?

I'll say that you had!
