Was in the hospital Saturday

Well, here is a fun fact.

Wendover, Nevada has a lot of casinos and is a popular place for Utahns to go on the weekend. It’s an hour and half drive from SLC. A straight shot at 80 miles an hour on a good highway with somewhat interesting varied scenery. The Montego Bay casino has a great buffet.

Husband loves to go there. I love it there. We love the food. The gambling, the overall excitement and energy of the place. We went Friday. Lots of old people go there.

Here is another less fun fact which we did not know. Wendover DOES NOT HAVE a hospital, a medical clinic, or a doctor. 😮😢. We found that out when I collapsed, in the upstairs lobby, on the way back to my room. I didn’t faint. I collapsed. I was suddenly very, very, tired; and every muscle in my body turned to jelly. Thankfully, I fell/sat onto my walker seat and my husband pushed up against me to keep me from hitting the floor. He says I became unconscious, twice.

I don’t remember being unconscious, but, well, you know, whatever.

He called the paramedics. I lost my hearing for a bit, but when it came back he was on the phone to the paramedics-in Utah. They transferred him to the paramedics in Nevada who wanted our life story, us being such interesting people and all. I became aware while this conversation took place that I was regaining muscle control.

I lifted my face, which was plastered against his fat belly, and realized I need a bathroom. I was going to be sick. Realized I could walk, stood up, and headed for the elevator, to get to our room, to get to the bathroom, so I could throw up before I collapsed again. He yelled, stop. Nope, got to go. And so we went as he told the paramedics we were headed up. Got to the room, got the dry heaves, got to my bed, laid down, and here come the paramedics.

The paramedics do their thing, hook me up for a quick EKG, pronounce my heart is fine, and did I want to take an ambulance or the helicopter back to SLC, UT. Both take an hour. 😂😂😂. What? Yup, no hospital, no clinic, no doctor. But Wendover does have an ambulance service and a medical helicopter service. And was I the same lady they saw last weekend? 😳. You know-all us old fat collapsing woman look the same.

No, you haven’t seen me before.

No not taking a helicopter. No not taking an ambulance for a 150 plus mile ride. Yes, I refuse treatment, wait, does it cost me to refuse treatment? No. Ok. Treatment refused. Lord love a duck. The nice Nevada paramedics explain exactly where you have to be on the highway, basically an hour away at a certain rest stop, where you can call 911 and, if needed, get the UTAH paramedics. Apparently all of us old woman would rather risk death than money on a ride.

So. I am barely able to walk to the car, but I do. He stuffs everything in, including me, and at midnight we start home. Later he said the car used up more gas at 90 mph but other than that it did well. I don’t know. I do know it’s good there was a Kleenex box in the car. Cause it can whole a lot of 🤮. That’s what I did all the way home. 🤮

Reminds me of my son's FIL, Went a couple of hours drive away to a casino in Oklahoma. He started to not feel well, chest pains, hard to get a breath. He did not want to go to a hospital there, drove home, straight to the hospital and sure enough he had a heart attack.

I am glad it was just a bad spell and you got home safe. I also think if they had felt you were in danger they and your hubby would have kept you safe and made sure you got the medical care needed.

So, we get home. I am still extremely weak. He helps me get in the house, I get to the bath room 🤮, lay down in bed, fall asleep or unconscious, and hour later-Need the bathroom, feel awful, very very weak, call him, he calls the paramedics and they come. Its 4 am. I ask them to help me to the bathroom.

They are insulted. “Did you call us just to get you to the bathroom?” Hmm, if I had only felt better. But I didn’t. I feel awful. Explained the situation and said I wanted to potty before they cart me off in the ambulance. They do their thing and say my heart looks fine. 😂😂😂

But once they help me to the bathroom, I ask them to help me to the car so husband can take me to the hospital cause if they are rude I’ll die before I ride in their ambulance. He takes me to the hospital. We explain the situation. They check me out. Doctor says I’m fine to leave. Ok.

I get up, walk half way down the hallway, because he brought me in, in a hospital wheelchair cause I was so weak and tired. I am very very very tired. I walk halfway down the hallway, and, yup, I collapsed onto the floor. The guy behind us runs and tells the desk I’m on the floor. The doctor and nurse come and peal me up off the floor. 🙄. What? No, didn’t hit my head. I’m, hmm, I’m fine. 😊

You know, other than collapsing on the floor.

I remember the doctor saying, “well, now I have to hospitalized you.” Gee, sorry. Did I interrupt her dinner? I remember the nurse saying “why didn’t you wait for a wheelchair?” Cause I wanted to leaven and you said I was fine.

I remember thinking they could both bite me. Actually, I can’t write here what I was thinking of them. I also thought I’d just collapsed onto the floor and I’d like to stop doing that, collapsing. At this point I don’t remember anything until I ”wake” up on the cardiac ward of the hospital.

Husband said it only took 10 minutes to get me a room. Stupid people. The Nevada paramedics, the Utah paramedics, and the ER Doctor all agree I am fine, fine, fine. Stupid people, even I have figured out that I am not fine.

Anyway, on the cardiac ward my heart does its usual routine of various heart rhythms. Bradycardia, v-tact, SVT, a-fib, pvcs. I am asked by the doctor treating me if I want compressions if needed. Nope (I also refuse treatment of the stupid cardiologist that I had before and they want to call.)

They do a lot of blood tests. An ultra sound of my heart. Tell me I need a pacemaker-bite me! Recommend I see the cardiologist as soon as possible. Hmm, nope. The test shows I am a little dehydrated, other than that they have no ideal what is wrong. But if it happens again I don’t need to come back, because I guess, they have no ideal what is wrong. Hmm, ok. And I am released Sunday afternoon.

I contact my doctor, on Monday. I tell her I noticed my urine was really dark and they didn’t do a test on it. I ask her to order a test cause I’ve been through kidney failure and I know what it looks like. Tuesday, on the way to the wound clinic, I stop at the lab. Blood test, urine test.

Bet everyone knows what was wrong. UTI. Yup. Plus lower kidney function.

Anyway, got the medication and started it today. Had they run a test Saturday, while I was in the ER, I would be halfway well. Stupid people.

It;s all a crap shoot sometimes. We go to doctor after doctor, oh its that oh its that. They don't really listen do they? I just want a doctor that writes it all down, say well, I am not sure so let's take some blood, urine to check. Let me do some research about your pain. Then come back and order other tests if needed. I went through a year of hip pain. Pulled muscle, Inflamation, take these relaxers, use heat, use ice, don't bend, don't pick up anything heavy.

The pain was horrible, worse than bringing a child into the world. They did not believe it. After all I was not crying, I was not screaming. That is not in my nature. They should believe you if you say you are in pain.

Finally sent for an MRI, could not lay flat on the table due to pain. Sent to the hospital knocked out for MRI.

Hip joint totally crushed, collapsed due to blood loss circulation to the bone. Bone died and collapsed, oh yeah that would cause extreme pain, would you like some pain medication? I had been walking around with that, shards of bone in my flesh. No, I will just go home and have some ice cream. WTF, yep. they sent me home. They did give me some pain killers which did not work. I wound up drinking some vodka with the narcotic. The pain would stop one way or another.

My first ambulance ride, HA HA, they sent me home when I woke up. Finally, I got the hip replacement, it was like a vacation compared to the pain of the last year. People wonder why we have a problem with healthcare, it is because they do not take any responsibility for their well paid jobs. We have no right to complain after all they went to school for so many years so they must know everything NOT!

I understand where you are coming from. Once I found the right doctor
he was all about it. He knew I was suffering and did the right thing. We have to take into account that they still have to go through insurance to get approval to provide the care we need. For the most part healthcare sucks, insurance sucks when you are sick. Unless you are having a heart attack, a stroke, your brain is outside your skull or cut off a limb with a chain saw, they have to contact your insurance. Good Lord help us.

@Blessed I am so with you! I too am one of those people who endure great pain in silence most of the time. And I agree, doctors do not care how much pain you are in. Now that they, the doctors, addicted people to pain meds and are taking the “heat” for that, they are trying to improve their PR by not giving patients approximate pain relief.

For the most part the medical profession is not a “calling” anymore; but how much money can they make, how many patients can they see in an hour, and how fast can they process them through office. Most of them can’t even remember which patient is which.

It is all about finding that right doctor; which is hard to do for sure

Hi @Aneeda72 i hope you made a f/u visit with your MD… that could be serious!
I am seeing my doctors PA this afternoon. Unfortunately I had a “bad spell” this morning so I am not sure I’ll be able to get my walking done. It’s so strange, I get suddenly extremely tired, then lightheaded, then weak, and if I do not sit down; I’ll go down.

It looks like I may need another 30 day EKG if all this doesn’t clear up after the medication is done. It’s all so annoying. I have things to do. Has anyone else ever had these symptoms? The major one seems to be the tiredness-everything else follows after.

Amazed at how debilitating a UTI is. Still feel lousy and it's been well over a week since taking antibiotics. I feel bloody awful!
Pepper what were you symptoms exactly? Please share cause I feel awful as well.

That's how I feel with the UTI

Chills. Dizzy, very shaky, esp. head & hands. Gushed out bright red blood. Still very weak & shaky. No more blood.
Gosh, I am sorry you are so sick as well. Yup, I got really shaky as well. But you have made me feel better emotionally, knowing you have the same symptoms is reassuring, thanks. I rarely get actually sick so it’s been very disconcerting for me.

Ditto from this gal. Do feel better, now you know what you are dealing with.🤗
Yes I do. But there is still a heart component for me as I am having pressure, some breathing issues, and a bit of sweating when I walk, so annoying. Course I had those symptoms before the UTI and already talked to my doctor about it. I think the UTI is making the symptoms a bit worst.

Gosh, I hope he is ok now. The must have been a frightening drive for you.

It’s a statement on medical care in the USA. Because of our insurance we all want to be where our insurance will pay the most so our lives are needlessly put at risk.
