That method sounds good to me.When something delicate/pricey is new, I hand wash. I have a pail and small plunger from the $1 store to do the agitating. The plunger is too small to be used in a toilet, perfect for this task.
Once things are older, the delicates go into a mesh bag and are done on Delicate cycle in the machine. No fabric softener. Just hung to dry.
I've thought about trying Woolite and may do that and see if it works betterDon't have many delicates that need special washing, but I always have a bottle of Woolite in the laundry room, and once in awhile I'll soak something in the sink using the Woolite, then line dry.
I've never thought of Borax before but that makes sense. The instructions on the bras that I bought say to hand wash but I'm not sure about drying them in the dryer I hang them up on the bathroom curtain rod.For the few delicate I have I use my delicate wash cycle and use Woolite. If you are really really sensitive to chemicals and stuff then I’d suggest using plain Borax in warm water. It wouldn’t take much to wash them and borax will completely disinfect them. Make sure you rinse well and hang ti dry or dry on delicate / gentle cycle. It works great.
I usually just hang mine up also but some people might want other options. I think you’ll like washing with Borax. It quick and easy with zero chemicals, dyes or scents.I've never thought of Borax before but that makes sense. All free is what I'm using already.Ruthanne is the soap a concentrate or just the normal strength? If it's concentrate maybe use half of what it says or get All Free.
I have tried Tide twice and it makes me itch like mad. But thanks for your post. The couple of delicate items I have I just hand wash in Tide. My hubby is allergic to most all preservatives in soaps and cleaners. Regular Tide was the only one recommended by his doctor. It didn't even have to be fragrance free. It took years of going to doctors to figure out it was preservatives causing all the skin problems.
The doctor said it would take another year to cycle through all the clothing and bedding that had been washed previously with other detergent.
He has been rash free for many years now.
That sounds like a good idea.Maybe try some baby detergent, Ruthanne. They are very mild.
Many moons ago in Home Ec class in high school, we learned that shampoo and Woolite are pretty much the same thing. Save the cost of Woolite and buy shampoo. I used to use Johnson's baby shampoo.I've thought about trying Woolite and may do that and see if it works better
