Watching under the banner of heaven. LDS

Mr. Ed

Be what you is not what you what you ain’t
Location
Central NY
Series is disturbing, true account of LDS believers murder and disregard] of everything not of Prophet.

I read the book years ago and would love to watch the movie. How are you getting it?

I have no respect for Joseph Smith because yes ,I believe some of the messages
he received were from Angels but instead of giving credit to the Holy Angels
for the words received, he labeled himself as the great prophet.
Also, There is the issue of the subjugation of women.
I've read the Mormon Doctrine and some things are erroneous, from a worldly
and a heavenly stand.
You see, I receive words from Holy Angels as well.
Don't have time to point these out in detail as I am writing another book
of my own.
However, All religions have their place in the spiritual growth of mankind
because they keep "God" in the consciousness. and,
The Mormon religionists sing beautiful hymns to honor God.
This is good.

I worked in a psych hospital. There were a number of people, whom angels, and other spirits spoke to. I always had a number if "Christs" walking around the ward. So, I'm skeptical of "special" people, who claim to communicate with gods and others.
I mostly agree.. but there are so many things that cannot be rationally explained that I'd never say "impossible" to those things.

Well, I don't consider myself "special". I know what I have seen, felt, heard and experienced.
If you want to know the mind of a person. read his/her words. I have three published books
about angelic communication so far.
I think there will be a time when the spiritual and the scientific merge. I could try to convince
you of the Holy Angels and of spirits, but you are not open to these truths, so, I won't bother.
Your inference that I'm "crazy" though, well, I'll say no more except to ask you please do not
demean my character.

Yes!!!

I have mixed feelings about this. I agree that LDS theology is hogwash. But then, to me so is every other theology. Pick the myths you want to believe. On the other hand, I wouldn't exist if it hadn't been for the LDS. They sponsored my Grandmother's immigration from Switzerland when she was 12 years old. And, all my relatives I know who are members, including my brother, are really fine people. So, if they aren't really doing any harm, I wish them well. Of course, there are those in any organization who will twist things to their advantage, often sexual. Other mainstream religions are not immune to this.

I think Joseph Smith was a scam artist, after all...if actual work is not appealing one can always start their own religion. But, I must say that I've never met a disagreeable Mormon. My first wife was a Mormon(Jack Mormon), she was nice but pretty confused.
Agreed, The LDS community are sincerely nice people, although constrained and suppressed.
I DO take offence to the subjugation of women, their excommunication practices,
as well as other things I read in "The Mormon Bible".
but, yes, IMO, no religion is without error. Some have done more harm than good.
I personally left my church and religion forever at the age of eight. (with no prompts)
But if keeping the absolute in man's mind is as far as they believe, it has a useful purpose.
Everyone is on their own path for the evolution of their soul.
Some need these religions to make sense of this world and their life.

Yep, good point. The only religion that makes sense to people is their own...

Like you I have had a lot of exposure to Mormons, since I was 16 I have lived in Utah off and on several times. My wife is from Utah, not Mormon, but most of her relatives are. The Utah high school I graduated from was 99% Mormon, literally there were 9 non-Mormons in my class of over 300, and the town I live in now is about the same. I get along with them just fine, they are good people, but how they can believe the "hogwash" as you say is a mystery to me.

I have not seen the show, but in some descriptions it seems to me to mix some of the fundamentalist branches of the church with the mainstream Mormon Church. That can be a mistake, some of those sects are truly evil, and have little relationship to the much larger mainstream. What defines a cult isn't clear to me, but I would not call mainstream Mormons a part of a cult.

I know we are not supposed to call them Mormons anymore, I don't know why. They still believe in the Book of Mormon and Mormon is still one of their primary prophets. Hard for me to change after so many years, especially when I see and mean no disrespect in the Mormon name.

I think I read that they felt that too many people don't believe they are Christians, which they claim they are. So, they want to be referred to as the Church of Christ of latter day saints.

Watching the last episode tonight. I love Andrew Garfield, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Rory Culkin - surprising about him as I don't like his brother Macaulay. I didn't read the book and I am not really familiar with the Mormons.

Just wondered if the Christs in the ward argued with each other about who was the real Christ.

I have Mormon cousins. They call themselves Mormons. But that was 10 years ago. I did innocently ask my cousin one time if Mormons believed in Jesus, and he was noticeably offended. It's not an unreasonable question though. Given the vast array of strange Mormon beliefs that diverge from Christianity, it would not seem strange at all if they didn't believe in Christ. I just wanted to know, and since he was right there, who better to ask than an actual Mormon? It makes zero difference to me whether Mormons believe in Jesus, so it wasn't like I was going to fight with him over it. He was forever telling me about what his religion believed, but never once mentioned Jesus until I asked.

I read Under the Banner. I'd like to see the film. I cancelled Hulu a few months back. I only pay for one streaming service at a time, and cancel when I run out of interesting stuff. I was going to sign up for Showtime next. I cancelled Netflix after I mined it for the good stuff, and I'm currently taking a break from streaming services. I have my own private collection and much there to keep me busy, so I limit my streaming.

From IMDb - Storyline > "Three Christs tells the story of an extraordinary experiment that began in 1959 at Michigan's Ypsilanti State Hospital, where Dr. Alan Stone treated three paranoid schizophrenic patients who each believe they are Jesus Christ. Dr. Stone pioneers a simple, yet revolutionary treatment: instead of submitting the patients to electroshock, forced restraints and tranquilizers, he puts them in a room together to confront their delusions. What transpires is a darkly comic, intensely dramatic story about the nature of identity and the power of empathy."

I often wondered about that. So, I asked them. Well, if you truly believe you are Christ, then someone else claiming to be Christ is a delusional soul. This wasn't "pretend", each Christ truly believed, to them, it was real. Just as real as everything around you.
