Water bill in Arizona...

So, today we got our water bill.
The actual water usage was $9.28.
The "fees" plus water were $31.60.
So total water was $31.60 JUST for "water".
Water obviously is cheaper than all the "environmental fees" and surcharges, this does not include the taxes. :ROFLMAO:

I don't know where the fee and surcharge source comes from, but they need to get a lower bid! ;):ROFLMAO:

how long is the bill for ?

yes that's a lot for 30 days .. when youve only used $9 worth.... but it's the same here... that tax on a bill is always much more than what we've used...

"Environmental fees" is the new code word for taxes here in the States. This is because taxes need to be voted on, fees not so much. The utilities/govt powers that be think we are all stupid.

We also just got a 10% increase in our HOA fees. Many cities are now requiring new home developments to have MANDATORY "Home Owner Associations", which are supposed to be non-profit and collect fees to keep neighborhoods tidy and enforce certain "rules" so everyone gets along and doesn't open a shade tree mechanic business in their front yard. HOAs are supposed to be an organization run by actual people living IN the neighborhood who give a damn about the condition of the neighborhood.

Our HOA fees are $170.00 a quarter, ($680.00 a year) but just went up the maximum of 10%/yr.

The HOA really does NOTHING except use our money to pay an administrative manager to collect our money, issue notices to people (pink slips) that they need to bring in their garbage carts before the next morning. They do nothing about violations of the covenants such as no cars are to be parked on the street overnight, but in garages....among other ignored rules.

Oh, and it pays for a swimming pool, as well as landscape maintenance - of "common" areas, for 450 homes in the neighborhood; the HOA does not landscape individual's home landscapes, just "common areas" - and that isn't a massive area. And ALL fences of concrete block are maintained at the cost of each homeowner, NOT the HOA.

450 houses x 750.00 = $337,500 a year.
1/3 of a million dollars collected.

If you want to come to America, open a business managing HOAs. If I were younger, I would.

there's an irony attached to the signature.. lol.. you won't know but everyone else here does know, that I'm going through a long drawn out expensive divorce right this minute....
My very deepest condolences on the divorce and I absolutely understand long, drawn out divorces. The only person who "wins" in a divorce is lawyers, so lawyers instigate long drawn out.

Do you know the number one cause of divorce? Marriage.

Come to Oklahoma if you want to see water bills:)

You don't like your HOA. You had the opportunity to go through covenants and by-laws prior to purchasing your home.
Go through the monthly and annual financial statements and you will be surprised to see where that money goes.

Expensive? For an arid state as Arizona?

Come to my little village in Germany. I pay 80 Euro (84,50 $) per month for water.

Yes, did have the opportunity to read through the CCRs and with a fine tooth comb. What I expect is that part of the job of an HOA is to enforce the covenants and agreements and I do not mind fees and such, as long as they do a good job in return for my payments. HOAs enforce only those that they feel like enforcing; they tend to disregard many rules in the CCRs.

Developers control an HOA until a development is completed and then the home owners get to become controllers of the HOA, IF the majority don't want to pay for a managed HOA, then there is voting that happens to pick whatever method of management the homeowners choose. HOAs become a political entity - eventually.

We were forced to buy a home in an HOA back in 2022 because interest rates were about to skyrocket. We also own 4 acres in a non-HOA rural area up against beautiful mountains. However, we could not get a home built there before interest rates and builders raised costs beyond our budget.

It is what it is. If I were younger I would try to become an HOA board member in our community, but I haven't the energy to dicker with all the younger homeowners who think I am just an old lady and pretty much, younger things ignore old people as irrelevant.

Is just a fact of life - and the good thing about getting older is that I can be relaxed about everything and enjoy time on these forums with other older people.

Wow. Our water bill is part of the larger City services bill. We also add to that the sewer charges and trash/recycle pickup charges. When all said and done, with water, the bill comes to $80-95 a month.

Electricity usually runs between $65.00 - $270. (winter - and we have natural gas for heat in winter, but Tucson is very mild climate in winter. Our very hot summer months (June, July, Aug, Sep average temps are 95-100F) and electric bills run between $125. and $270. a month in those months but I keep our thermostat air conditioning down to 76-79 in the daytime and 71-67 at night in summers.

We only need heat in the house between about the end of Dec to about the end of Feb, so the gas bill goes from $18-$20 in warm months to about $45-$65 in winter months. We have gas for both water heating and cook top.

Did you know *The State* is imposing proposing a mileage tax now? That's where you pay a tax on every mile you drive.

Because Californians were super-good about going with electric cars to reach that zero-emissions goal, *The State* lost a ton of gas-tax money...oops 😳. They're hoping the mileage-tax will make up for it, but to make that work, we're all going to have to get these data-collecting devices installed in our cars, and all new cars sold in Calif are gonna have to have them factory-installed. It's sort of a Mega GPS 2.0 device.

Of course, these devices will collect various types of data, and store it in the State Cloud, but *The State* is assuring us with a big ol' pinky-promise that they are only interested in your mileage count, and that they will definitely ignore all the other info about you. ...well, for now, anyway, but probably for always and forever. 😇

If I add trash/recycle pickup and electricity I pay Euro 228 (241 $) per month. That's Germany, one of the most expensive countries in the world in stealing the money from their inhabitants.

In my former comment I've added the sewer charges, since they are always in one package "water and sewer charges".

Southern WV (West Virginia American Water)— water only, no sewer. We never water a lawn or garden and never wash a vehicle. The two of us take the fastest showers known to man and wash perhaps 14 loads of clothes a month with a water saving washer. We run a dishwasher about twice a week. I’m tickled to death if our water bill is less than $50 a month…before they get the rate increase they’ve requested. Most of the time it’s closer to $60.
Don’t even get me started on electricity.
Or our land line phone.
It puts me in a mood

Well soon you can live in one of those "15-minute cities" where it's just a 15 minute walk each way to load your water buckets from the fountain in the town square.

dollar a day for a safe supply of clean drinking water, a shower, flush toilets, etc… is an amazing value.
I’ve honestly never thought of it that way. You’re totally right! After all, if we didn’t have water I would pay that much in a heartbeat. Thanks for the new perspective!

Holy cow! So sorry that is the case.

What is wrong with California?
Many people are voting with their feet.
Why do Democrats have such a stranglehold?
Is it the land of the idealist, the Utopian dreamers?

I was raised in AZ.
We always avoided going to CA as my parents said it was the "Land of the Fruits and Nuts" and didn't like the liberal lifestyles and politicians.
CA and AZ were polar opposites regarding politics, almost enemies.
Now Californiaism is spreading to Arizona - as well as other States.
Am beginning to hear conversations about people wanting to leave AZ due to the "crazy" ideas seeping in here.

Where will it all end? Just rhetorical.
