We are moved in!

Hi Ronni, nice to see you posting again, it
has been a while, I hope that you are better,
you sound happier about the move.

Well done.

Mike.
I’m exhausted, but yes, happy we’re moved, happy about this location and house. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

The drive in to work is absolutely lovely. No no memories, everything fresh, no reminders, no stress, the scenery is gorgeous, I don’t even have the stress of traffic because I head in to work on a lightly traveled country two lane road which is nothing but scenic views all the way, don’t have to navigate freeways or parkways or traffic lights or congestion in commercial areas. It’s lovely!
I wish you luck with your new home and hope you have great neighbors.
We’ve met several so far. All lovely. We’re across the road from the Vice Mayor of our little town, and she and her husband have been especially welcoming and informative. We already have an invitation to an evening of foosball and pool with a little moonshine thrown in for good measure 🤣 This is the country after all!

So happy for you, Ronni! Hopefully you can more easily move on with your life now. BTW, I love your kitchen cabinets and hardwood floors!
Thank you @seadoug! Going to change out the hardware on the cabinets to something a little more distinctive, but other than that I’m very happy with the way the kitchen looks.

Look at this close up pic of the granite and backsplash. I haven’t seen granite like that before. I love the combo of it and the gray subway tile.

This is very British.... :)

Oh, yeah. I have traveled on the freeways around Nashville. Stay off of them during morning and evening rush hours. Those folks down there are crazy. I like to eat at the Wild Horse Saloon in Nashville and coming from the airport, it's not terribly bad. I have been on worse freeways.

Our mileage certainly does vary lol! I’ve lived on 3 different continents in my lifetime and have lived or driven in quite a few different cities in the US, and have never encountered worse freeways, or drivers for that matter.

I think in part it has to do with the Infrastructure here. Nashville has grown incredibly quickly. When I moved here in 1994, part of its appeal was the small town feel. Didn’t last long. It was “discovered” and the population exploded, and the Infrastructure is still trying to catch up. Consequently things like the freeway system, roads and highway widths, traffic light timings, all the things that enable smooth traffic flow, just aren’t adequate for the population growth.

California freeways around the Los Angeles area where I used to live are always congested no matter the time of day, but they still flow well. Their infrastructure is so much better b

Some of the things that caused Nashville to explode are: It’s the Capitol of Tennessee, it is also home to at least four record companies, Nashville hosts one NASCAR race, it’s probably the largest city for Country music, which includes the Grand Ole Opry and they still do performances at the Ryman Auditorium, many museums of classic Country stars like George Jones and others, it’s home to many Country singers and just a few miles from Hendersonville, which also is home to Country singers and of course who could forget the Tennessee Titans, which the stadium is in Nashville.

The state is also friendly to retirees with their property tax deductions. Nashville is not perfect by no means. I remember reading about their drug problems, which is no different than other large cities, Nashville did have a crime problem, but I haven’t checked it for this year. Tennessee is listed as one of the top ten states recommended for retirees.

I have to admit that I always enjoy my time down there and I especially enjoy going to Murfreesboro and Chattanooga. Both cities have a lot of things to do. I did like going to Memphis, but when crime went rampant, we decided it best to avoid going there and that was a shame because we both enjoy listening to the Blues. I saw some very good Blues performers in Memphis, including the man himself, B.B. King. I just saw a picture of him not long ago. He really aged, but he is 89. I should be so lucky when I get up there.

I’m not sure if I mentioned it but we are currently in Syracuse NY for the wedding of one of our best friend’s daughter. We left Thursday and will return tomorrow evening.

I didnt want to leave all those unpacked boxes behind, but it has turned out to be a very relaxing time away. We feel recharged and ready to jump into the work again when we return!

Here we are all dressed up for the wedding!

We spent the weekend relocating and now we’re fully moved in to the new house and wrapped up with the old one!

When I drove away from the old house for the last time, I was overcome and had to pull over. I sobbed against my steering wheel for several minutes. It wasn’t that I was sad to be leaving. On the contrary, I felt like I was releasing all the pent up negative emotion of having forced myself to continue to live where there were so many triggers and negative memories, and the sheer relief of never having to be there again was overwhelming and so incredibly freeing.

The move itself was flawless. My move guy and his crew were fantastic. I work with Billy from time to time for my clients. He’s a concierge mover and is truly amazing. He’s not the cheapest but his expertise, care and efficiency is worth every penny.

The unpacking is slow going. We did our best to purge and get rid of things before the move because we have less square footage, less storage space. We did well with the gauging the furniture we can use, but the boxed stuff is where I’m having trouble. I still have way too much stuff for the space we’re in! 🤦‍♀️

This was the kitchen area immediately after everything got unloaded. Believe it or not there’s a table and chairs under there!

I just came across this thread, Ronni, after I haven't been to SF in quite some time recently.
I'm very happy for you! Congratulations, and a warm welcome home from me.
