We boomers are just worriers!

As my wife and I drove into town the other day we ran through the heavy smoke of leaves burning.
There is no reason for anyone to burn anything in our village limits because all yard waste is removed by the village and all you have to do is pile leaves along the street.
We got tired of our eyes and lungs burning from the yard waste smoke some
25 years ago and passed a burning ban ordinance.
I mentioned what happened on our village internet site and some of these young people tried to make it look like it was a joke.
Some called me a boomer which is what our generation is called but they meant it as something derogatory.
I posted how my generation took care of our own needs and how people have to pay high taxes so that everything is done for them today.
Yes! I am proud to be a boomer and have done my share for the good of the community.
These young people don’t stand up for anything and have to pay through the nose for big city services in a village of 1300 people.
I feel sorry for the ones who have good common sense because of all of the stupid things that the rest of them do and still think they are cool or smart.

I understand your frustration, but it appears nothing is being done to enforce the burn ban ordinance, which would be my concern more than the opinions of the airheads.
I was not really prepared for this guy to blatantly disregard the burning ban so by the time I contacted the police he had finished with the smoky type of fire and the police didn’t even warn him.
I realized that I really have no authority to tell somebody what they can or can’t do so I would have to have proof that they were burning wet weeds and leaves before the police will do anything.
I will have to take a video of the next one loading the smoking fire so that it can’t be disputed. If it ever happens again.

It's not fair we have to prove everything while the offenders don't have to do anything. I had security cams put in 2 or so years ago for when things happen here, like a bad neighbor who has thrown trash onto my property. But it's hard to get code enforcement to even view the video - and when they see the offense, it's like pulling teeth to get them to do anything other than a warning, if that much.

So many people don’t care or think it’s a joke as long as it isn’t happening to them.
That was the attitude that a lot of them had when I posted about how I didn’t want to go back to where the smoke burns out eyes and lungs every time we go outside on a nice fall day.
But these people who act like they love the smell of burning leaves always burn them when the smoke is being carried away from their own homes.
Kind of like they love smoke as long as they aren’t the ones breathing it.

I tell people like that "just wait your turn, it's inevitable... You won't be known as Boomer, but the feeling will be the same".

As I'm getting older I'm learning not to get bothered by much of anything. Life is too short and I can't change what any body else does. I can just adjust, make changes and move on.

There was a thread about wood heating being banned with some remarking that Britain was a "nanny state" because they were trying to protect the health of the people downwind and reduce health care costs for free, essentially. Couldn't find it though.

"So many people don’t care or think it’s a joke as long as it isn’t happening to them."

And that applies to many, many things in life.
