We May Get to Witness the Most Questionable Super Bowl Halftime Show Ever

How does a city boycott a halftime show?
Sounds like fake news to me... can you cite a credible source?

I have no problem with him doing the halftime show.
And all those protesting because he is "not American" are showing their ignorance.

The NFL is actively courting the Hispanic audience, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are VERY involved with Mexico and Steeler fans in Mexico.
I fail to see why that triggers white males...
I have nothing against his doing the halftime show at all. He's a successful and very popular artist. Those who oppose this are showing their intolerance, ignorance and racism. Seems they'd be willing to spoil one of the few pleasures that American sports fans have these days. It's shameful, really.

Bad Bunny has been doing concerts in Puerto Rico recently. Many of the hispanic musicians have expressed concerns that their audience would be afraid to come to their venues because of ICE. Some artists have changed their concert dates that were out of country out of concern that they might find it difficult if not impossible to reenter the USA. It has been the topic of conversation on the local spanish radio station in phoenix. I am not fluent
but understand enough. Perhaps there is concern about ICE at the super bowl?

Won't be watching. Gave up on the NFL decades ago.
Still watch college games every Saturday ... for the time being.
They haven't had a good half time show in years in my opinion. I used to absolutely be glued to the tv when the NFL was on but quit watching it when they started kneeling when the National Anthem was played. To each his own. I do follow my home teams scores. (Indianapolis Colts).

Here is a list of Superbowl halftime performers since 2001. There are very few that I care about, but then I'm old and I need to acquiesce to a younger audience. I don't think the Four Tops will draw an audience these days. ;)

I agree. I know they they to keep up with the times although my taste in music and musicians hasn't. I couldn't even tell you the last half time show I saw.

I think I saw one with Diana Ross and Tina Turner in the 90's and Prince and Madonna in the 2000's but aside from that it's just about the commercials.

Madonna may have been the last one I saw. I haven't watched the Super Bowl for years, but I do like the commercials. I usually give it a day or two and they eventually show up on You Tube. My all-time favorites are the ones with the Clydesdales.

I'm curious about the controversy, but have no interest in the Superbowl or the half time show that fills the gap between the halves.

Popular music ties together generations. Remember our elders wringing their hands over our music, hair and apparel choices? I fumed inside at their insults and unwillingness to consider that this music spoke to us just as big bands spoke to them.

While BB's music may or may not appeal to me (I'll have to check out some YouTube videos), being dismissive of his artistry or disrespecting the tens or hundreds of millions who enjoy it? Unthinkable for me.

Contempt for what others love is divisive and unproductive.

To borrow the phrase my DD uses with her children, "Don't yuk someone else's yum."

Bob Dylan said it well throughout this song, but this stanza is most apropos to the current thread:
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize

What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand

For the times they are a-changin'

Bad Bunny is extremely popular with Spanish speakers and non-Spanish speakers alike. Having been born in the US, he has full American citizenship (Puerto Rico is a US territory).

Remember when people clutched their pearls over the first rap performance in a Super Bowl? That was the very edgy Queen Latifah in 1998. QL has since become an enduring American star as a rapper, singer, and TV and movie star. Quite mainstream, I might add. And speaking of rappers, Snoop Dogg cohosted the US Summer Olympics coverage and was so popular he's been signed for the 2026 Winter Olympics, for Pete's sake!

Numerous rappers/hip-hop artists have performed in the SB since 1998 and the world didn't stop spinning.

My point? People need to calm themselves over Bad Bunny. If an NFL team qualifies to play in the SB and declines to play over its halftime performer, it will be their loss. Another team will eagerly take their place.

After all, nature - and professional sports - abhor a vacuum and will quickly fill it.

p.s. I half-watch Super Bowls, mostly to check out the commercials and the halftime shows, and look forward to seeing Bad Bunny's performance.
I'm just the opposite. I'm an NFL fan and I actually watch the game. At halftime I go out and walk the dog, who doesn't share my enthusiasms. I saw the U2 and Tom Petty halftime shows but I don't remember seeing any others. I did watch a little bit of Kendrick Lamar last year but I couldn't understand any of the words he was singing.

I know there is a person who calls himself Bad Bunny for some reason. I know that Bad Bunny is "big." And I'm sure he'll be singing his heart out while I'm circling the block with my biodegradable poop bag.

Interesting about your grandmother's saying. That was painted on the wall of a summer camp my son went to almost 30 years ago. It's excellent advice for everyone.

I'm not dumping on Bad Bunny or anything in the rap or hip-hop world. I don't understand or enjoy it but that's my problem, not theirs.

Puerto Rico is part of the U.S. and Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

It would difficult for ICE to figure out who might be undocumented among the PR population because their usual language and color profiling would be nearly impossible. Therefore Puerto Rico is far safer from ICE for Hispanic musicians' fans.

One thing about the half time show this year, with all of this controversy over this Bad Bunny, ratings should be up at half time due to people's curiosity. It won't be me, but I'll read about it the next day on the news.

Bad Bunny hosted Saturday Night Live last weekend. I wanted to see what the fuss was about. He was ok but the musical guest they did have......now THAT was weird. I don't know why he didn't perform his music so, as of yet, I still haven't heard it. Now I know I sound like an old bitty when I have finally really thought, "None of this new stuff really sounds like music!"

In addition, I should add to my previous post: The musical guest was a woman with yellow hair crawling around.....and they flipped out when Elvis rotated his pelvis! đŸ€Ł

What about foreign visitors to the game? It would be outrageous to harass them. Tourists equal big time money.

Bad Bunny will be raking in the big money already. Controversy sells; this is free advertising

They personally don’t get paid, though their production costs are. It’s all about massive exposure of the halftime show which is one of the most watched events.
