We seem to be a few days away from Hubby coming home

UPDATE: On Thursday Rick will be transported home for a couple hours for an "assessment" visit. A couple therapists will come as well. They want to look at the house, see how well he maneuvers around. Especially in and out of his chair, into the bathroom, stuff like that. I see no issues. We are all on one floor, have a ramp to get in. Plus he has already used a walker and cane to get around.
A friend will be coming out tomorrow to help me get the rest of the snow off the ramp. I got a lot off, but just was not able to get it all. Another friend has already plowed out the driveway, and there is no more snow expected between now and then.
On Friday there will be a meeting with his care team to go over everything, and plan his discharge.
I will let you know how all works out.

Sounds good, Marie. Once he's home, will you be taking him to PT?

I think he may get a few PT visits at home. I have to check. But, even though he will be able to drive (no restrictions) I will probably still go with him, if he has to go as out patient.

I'm confused. Your husband wants to go home, right? I guess I'm reading this wrong. You make it sound like you are going to be judged on whether or not you're fit to have him back with you. Please clear me up, here.

No...they are not judging me or him, they are looking at the physical layout of the house, and making sure he can get around on his own. They want to make sure we do not need to do any accomodations for his possible mobility issues. They want to know he can maneuver the house with a walker, with nothing his way. They will also be looking at the shower, and determining if he would need a shower chair (his Medicare Advantage ma cover it if it is deemed medically necessary). I guess this is something they do for any patient about to be released from Transitional care. I guess it is a safety thing.
He may also qualify for a Home Health Aide, temporarily at least.
Interesting thing, several people there have asked if I am able to assist him as needed. He has a small open wound on his butt, from sitting so much, and yesterday the nurse showed me what they are doing to care for it, so I can take over.

It is a safety thing and correct procedure. I know as I have had it done a few times after being in rehab facilities.

Even more good news that he's been cleared to drive, Marie! :woohoo1:

Our son was in the hospital undergoing PT/OT for two months after the accident. When he came home, he still wasn't ready to drive so we took him to PT several times each week. He was sometimes pretty worn out following those PT sessions, so you going with Rick for a while, both for moral support and possibly to help with the driving, is probably a good idea.

Marie,

This may sound like some form of creepy senior citizen sexting but I think that you should snap a picture of the pressure sore to document that it happened while your SO was in the hospital.

Good luck to both of you!
