Web sites don't usually keep up with product availability...

Target is the worst. I have found Walmart and Home Depot reliable. I don't like those big stores like Home Depot, so if I want something there, I look it up online and I can find exactly what isle and bay to go to. I have found them very accurate.

I had read Joann's was a joke during the pandemic. Order 5 things, get 1 or 2 perhaps. I needed some sewing machine needles and ordered from a website a YouTube sewing channel recommended. I had no problems with them.

What stores are giving you trouble?

...or price.

I've gone to stores that say they have a certain item for such a price and when I go there, find it gone or much more expensive than on their Website.
What is that? With instant electronic scanning, this is baffling to me.
Maybe the price you see online is only for if you order the item online. Some websites tell you it's the "online only" price and some don't. Some say they'll match the price if you buy the thing in the store, some don't.

In any case, when they scan the barcode, it will show the retailer's price, not the website's price.

I know that seems weird, but if you compare prices at a Target in Alaska to a Target in California they will be different because the store in Alaska has to pay more for getting everything shipped to their store, and they have to recoup the extra costs.

Each store programs their own scanners.

Why should an online price be different than an "in store" one?
Probably has to do with shipping costs, but I'm only guessing.

When you order online, you're ordering either from the retailer's huge warehouse, or directly from the manufacturer that the retailer is contracted with. Both effect the retailer's online sales costs.
