Weekends Come Quickly After Retirement

I was laughing about this with my husband, saying that the weekends come around so quickly. He mused, saying that maybe I should go back to work, when the weekends seemed to take forever to come. I assured him no, that's okay, I'll take the weekends sooner just not to have to work every day.

It's very true though, that weeks just fly by as we get older, and it seems like the year just begins, and it is soon over with.

Yes, the week ends do come faster. Are your week ends different than the rest of the week? Mine are as friends or relatives who work or go to school are more apt to be available on the week ends. Except for the summer the week end is the only time we can go to the movies during the day. Some people claim that time is really speeding up and it does seem that way. :) The end of 2012 will be here before we know it!

Yes weekends always seem to be a bit different for various reasons. Time is flying by to be sure, it's amazing how quickly weeks, months and years go by now. When I was a child, a year lasted forever...ahhh, the good ol' days, lol. :sentimental:

Mom was a person of few words - she had unique way of making her point by hollering "YOUNNNGGGG LADY!!" followed by facial expressions once she got my attention. That tiny little thang could sure instill the Fear of Death in me when she wanted to but, never once in my young life did she ever lay a hand on me - lol lol lol

It's a vague memory but I do remember when I was 12, bemoaning the fact that it was "still three weeks to the summer dance at school".

Mom slowly lowered the paper, gave me one of her "educational looks" and quietly stated: "don't wish your life away, the older you get the faster it goes".

I understood that a few weeks later ---------------when I hit my 30th B-day, had a three year old son, and didn't know how any of that managed to happen to a 12 year old:confused:

LOL, my mother used to say similar things to me. Now that I'm older, I have a greater understanding of all the things she said and did. :love_heart:

WEEK-ENDS ????
Gee.. I thought every day was the same, at least it seems that way..
I still can't seem to see the difference between a Monday or a Thursday or a Saturday.. They all seem the same to me.. Every day there is something to do around here..

Actually I could say that winters seem to come faster since we are retired....

I used to love weekends. Now I'm not crazy about them. It's so nice to shop when few others are on the street or in the stores. Amusement parks have no lines during the week. Just one of the many advantages to getting older. You can pick your times to go places when it's most convenient.

Now does this mean we develop a different perspective on time, considering we
no longer have to dance to the bosses tune, the thing i love about retirement is
waking up every morning knowing the day is all mine to do with it as i wish.

Yes, definitely have a different perspective on time since retirement. An I agree, I love being able to wake up every morning when I want to, not by a 4am alarm, and doing what I like during the day. Also, nights where I don't get much sleep are no longer stressful, since I don't have to punch a time-clock in the morning. :)

I tend to lose track of what day it actually is. All day long, here I was thinking it was Tuesday, and then wondering what happened to Monday..or did I lose Tuesday..so confused. After retiring it also took me a while to realize that the weekend was just two other days.

It is a truism that the time flies by...does that mean we're having fun? I know like SeaBreeze said, it's great wake up when you want. I usually lay there for a minute trying to decipher what day it is.
Sometimes I tend to be a night owl and hubby likes to roust me about it. I just tell him, I'm all growed up and can stay up as late as I want.

I lose track of what day it is too, and time crawls at times; other times it flies. Now, where did Summer go?? I guess if you don't have a real schedule or plans, things do go slower, but on the bright side as some of you brought up, your time is your own. Not always a bad thing, and more time to spend with grandkids, hobbies, etc.

I have to try and remember what day it is also, and I usually look on the iPad to see what day it tells me we are having. Since we don't have to try and crowd everything into the two weekend days, I have rearranged my schedule for shopping as well.
I don't like driving or shopping on weekends when the "working people" are having their busy time at the grocery and Walmart, so I now try to shop on Tuesday or Wednesday when I can.
Often the stores clear out the fresh produce and bakery items that didn't sell over the weekend, and will be out of date before the next weekend, so sometimes I get some great deals by shopping then.

....................It is a truism that the time flies by...does that mean we're having fun?...............

I think that might account for it.

I haven't looked at a calendar for years, I use the TV guide, if 'X' is on then in must be Friday. Good innit??
I've only set the alarm once in about a year or so and when it went off I thought I was under attack. I had no idea what it sounded like as it was a new clock. I was traumatized for the day!

I usually fold up in the early hours and wake up when I've slept long enough, and not even the dog cares. How does it get better than that?

I must still be in a workhorse state of mind, I decided to semi retire and give myself every weekend off last spring because my wife and I thought I was burning out.
It was great for the first month and a half but now I find myself bored and looking for excuses to go down to the shop. I guess I'm not ready to slow down yet at 58 years old.

It helps if you have a permanent event taking place on the same day every week, preferably in the middle, we have cleaner coming Monday, shopping helper Thursday, so it breaks up the week nicely and on Sunday a visit to a friend in a correctional facility. In between pottering about and getting out of the house and other Health appointments of some sort..So what is a weekend *LOL*
