interesting to see what they do at my driveway, and others....back in early 70's I was
laying cable for ma bell and we had a ditchdigger and air compressor we used to lay

This does seem strange. But then, they won't have to go to the gym. :giggle:

Well they left the yard looking great....fast workers, but still
don't understand doing all hand work on that trench...
Oh Hawky, I'm so glad to see you post early this morning! I was watching both Max Velocity and Ryan Hall Y'all on YouTube during yesterday's outbreak and was hoping none of those tornadoes were coming up your way in the state. @hawkdon

I agree. I believe they didn’t know what was under the top where they were digging. We have all underground utilities in my neighborhood, so every time I want to dig, I have to call and ask if the area is clear because if I didn’t and I would cause a problem for hitting a line, I pay for the repairs.

Usually they mark the lines first before any digging takes place but maybe that's only in certain places.

Perhaps there's good reason? Maybe there are lot of cables under there, and they need to be careful? Besides, doesn't digging manually mean they need to hire more people - which is a good thing?

What is Google cable?

I wonder if they think if they use a machine, they'll hit something they are not supposed to and cause problems.
That was my thought Diva. Even out here in the country there are various underground pipes, conduits often running parallel to roadways but branching off at properties, that could be damaged by heavy equipment, creating more inconvenience for residents. You have to be sure about where you're digging to use heavy equpment.

Yes, if my memory serves me correctly, last year I heard about an accidental rupturing of a pipe (or pipes or cables) that caused quite a problem in the area. I can't remember the particulars though.
