We've been out of town for awhile, and from the looks of our lawn there was a lot of rain. It's been a rainy spring here, but I don't complain, as there are usually dry fire danger drought conditions, and I'd rather see the landscape and animals watered.
So this morning was our first walk in the park. Left the dog home because his arthritis is bad and he's resting from our camping trip. One of the little bridges we cross over had a huge tree crashed down across it. The river was running very high and there were trees down everywhere, I think there must have been high winds also. I didn't take my camera (of course), so I didn't get a picture. This is the same bridge that was wiped out a couple of years ago after the flooding in the area, picture below.
They did have warning signs up about hazardous conditions, but we both wanted to take the walk and see what the damage was. After checking that the big tree across the bridge wasn't going anywhere, we decided to go through the limbs and continue on our hike. Soon we saw that the trail was covered in water, but we proceeded anyway.
Soon, ankle depth water became calf depth, then knee. The water was kinda gross, because it was full of earthworms. Some of them seemed to be 1/2 foot long, maybe they were bloated. I was grossed out, but we continued on the walk. On the way back, we had to walk through a rushing stream, but that water was nice and fresh and washed the worm juice off of our shoes and pants.
Got home and had to take off our shoes, socks and pants and put everything in the washer. We laughed about it afterwards, but looks like we're not going to be able to take our walks anytime this month until things dry out, and the park department tends to some of those fallen trees. Tomorrow, if the dog's up to it, we'll just take him for a walk in the park, in another area.
