Were the 70's better than today?

My memories of the 70's are the advent of Disco Music, Hot Wheels Die Cast Cars, Platform Shoes, Body Shirts, Mini Skirts, Shag Pile Carpet.
It was a time when other Parents could discipline you. If underage in the pub the cops would kick you out with a boot up the backside. Getting the Cane for not doing homework.

Yes, they were better. In my mind they were so much better. And then there will always be people listing the negative things about the 70s... sure there were negatives. As there are now and in every decade. I graduated high school in '75... never once had to worry about a school shooting. Got married in '79... poor but so incredibly happy. Yeah... I can't think too much about the 70s without getting overly emotional. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could.

Mini skirts were much more a part of the 60's.. byt the time we got to the 70's ( 1970-72) we girls were wearing hot pants... but generally by the early to mid 70's uk we were wearing Midi's.. and Maxi's .... then later in the 70's came those awful outfits from FAME...

Since I was young in the 70s and still financially cushioned by parents, it was a great time to me. But if I'd been in my parents' generation I doubt if I would have felt very good about the high inflation, high interest rates, high unemployment, political unrest, acid rain, smog, etc.

On a personal level...No. That was a stressful time for me. I was "Poor Girl", I was working full time and taking care of my toddler, mostly on my own (I had kicked his father, my first husband out). My parents were a big help when it came to babysitting though. I had health issues, including a heart condition, that made me feel pretty sick at times. My son was also a sickly little boy. Between us, I never could accumulate much sick time. By his teens, he was a healthy young man.

The 70's had some of the best music though. I got into bands like Mandrill and Maze f/Frankie Beverly, two of my favorites. Also Earth Wind and Fire, whose earlier music I liked best. My boss gave me an album of electronic music by producers Laurin Rinder & W. Michael Lewis called Seven Deadly Sins. A couple of the songs wound up being inspirations for me eventually composing electronic New Age fusions.

I did love the seventies and would go back in a heartbeat if I could. Life was easier without all the pressures of this modern age and people actually liked each other back then more than not. I had so much freedom I was elated all the time. The present is a life of restrictions, don't this, don't that, you can't say that. Are you crazy? And I can't even retire because the pandemic stole that plan away from me. So I need to find a portal to time travel back to the 70's. If I find it, you'll know why I'm not here anymore. :ROFLMAO:

Better than today? I don’t know. I was too busy raising kids and earning a living to notice. Went by in a blur. The 90s were my best.
💯

Agree on both counts. The 90s was when I reached some fundamental understanding of myself, and people in general. I was divorced and single, managed to enjoy my own company and not live by other people's standards.

After three years in the south my husband was promoted to a good position in New England. I was thrilled to be back among friends and family. I loved the 70s and our little family thrived.

The 1970’s were good to me…out from under the oppressive heel of my narcissistic mother, living on my own in a nice apartment that cost me about $200 a month, lots of energy, and respected and appreciated at work. I could buy a satisfying dinner at a restaurant for under $5. I felt safe almost everywhere. School shootings? Unheard of and unthinkable. Domestic terrorism? Likewise. A pandemic? What’s that?

The downside of the 1970’s? Spiraling inflation, and the age of polyester, manifested in those laughable abominations called leisure suits… 🙀

What we liked about the seventies is that we were young. Every generation lauds the good old days. Every generation thinks the time of their youth was the best.
