Were you blessed with a good singing voice?

Truth is, even the worst singer can learn to sing "fairly good" with the right training and persistance. There was a guy my age playing a lead role in our local musical who was so very very bad! But they worked with him, and worked with him, and worked with him. And he ended up sounding pretty decent!

I can't sing to save my life but my mother was a beautiful singer. As a kid, every morning when I would go into the kitchen for breakfast she'd be there listening to the radio and singing along to whatever they were playing. I found it pretty annoying at the time but now understand what a gift she had. She never sang in public that I know of - just around the house while doing whatever chores she was doing

As a child, I had a beautiful soprano singing voice. In 6th grade, or 5th, getting confused about my childhood, I had my tonsils out. Most kids had theirs out younger. After the tonsil removal, my voice dropped to alto, but never had that lovely voice that adults went crazy over, anymore.

Remember being on LIRR, Long Island Railroad, coming home from relatives on Christmas Eve. Broke into "Silent Night." My voice so clear adults on train literally in tears of joy at my impromptu performance. Got so much praise for my singing.

Never the same after the tonsils surgery. Lost my pitch, my tune carrying, everything. People have asked me to stop singing, including my grandson! Feel bad about that.
How wonderful! I'll bet they all remembered that all their lives. There was a little girl in my Sunday School class (we're friends to this day) who sang "Away in a Manger" during our Christmas Pageant and I was so amazed, I'll never forget it. There's something about a clear child's voice that is very close to Heaven.

Nope. I don't have a good singing voice. When I was 8, I was being prepared my First Communion, by the nuns. We were supposed to sing a hymn. The priest happened to come by, and we had to sing it for him. I belted out the hymn. The priest told me to "just pray".
In first grade we sang for the first ten minutes or so every day, and the teacher picked a different kid each day to lead the singing.
but the mean nasty old bag never picked me! Not that I'm bitter about that.

A good voice is always a matter of opinion.

I thought I sang okay.
Here's a band I was in,
Summer Breeze.
Corporate parties and weddings.
I sang quite a few of the songs.
I'm second from the right holding my white Les Paul. I'm about 30 there.

Here's a video :

My Dad had a lovely voice. Had his own band back in the 30's. My two sisters and I loved to sing in harmony and my Dad got a surprise to hear us one night singing God Save the Queen in perfect harmony but never encouraged us to take it further. Both my boys have lovely voices. I have a keen ear and can pick someone when they are not in tune.

Once in a while when I really want to convince myself I can't sing (sometimes in the car, I pretend like I can), I listen to a really great barbershop quartet.

I don't know these guys at all, but what impressed me isn't only their intonation, balance and comedic schtick, it's their attacks and releases -- very clean and precise.

Love these guys! Very entertaining.

I have found that there are many people who really have a great voice, but they never really capitalized on it.
I'd say that 99% of all "got talent" contestants don't use their voice at all. When they say, "I'm going to sing XXX by XXXXX" that's exactly what they mean. Their idea of singing means trying to imitate the person who sang the song. If they decided, instead, to sing in their own voice would the results be good? We'll never know.

For a small person, I have a strong potentially loud set of vocal chords but have never seriously trained the way singers need to be. Before I permanently foolishly damaged myself with stimulants at age 20, I expected to be a rock front man because was like Sammy Hagar who fronted Montrose as a rocker that could actually dance and sang "I had it in me." For years sadly, my only singing has only been inside my vehicles or during church masses as I never did the karaoke social nightclub thing.
