Were you ever a victim of a crime?

Started out innocent enough, wasn't a crime unless it was mine. I parked the wrong direction on a street wide enough to turn a semi around on @ 5 AM returning from work. tired and exhausted. Knew I was wrong $40 later. Next someone broke into my pickup & stole my small change ashtray, got maybe $3 in change & the ashtray, Then a few months later, my rear license plate was stolen, but they did replace the cover with the 4 screws. Kind of them. The plates only had 3 months left before the expiration date. I just marked it all up to my laziness & never reported it, just bad timing.

Just "small potatoes" thank goodness... one real life and one cyber crime. Real life was $80 stolen from my purse that I foolishly placed on a table at a dinner party. I knew who took it and he knew I knew. End of that story. Cyber was an unauthorized charge to a debit that stole my vacation money. Traced to... I think India and returned by the bank, so that one ended well.

True story, a few years before retirement I had purchased a homemade pickup bed trailer, for $25. Parked it outside our fence on city property, Filed with yard waste, garbage & uninvited wasp nests. Tires were flat, someone stole it & everything in it, I reported it. Months later there were 2 policemen standing at my front door, told me they had caught the culprits trying to sell it at a salvage yard. Do I want to press charges? No, they did me a favor, if they had knocked at my door, I would have gladly gave them $25 to haul it away.

First 3 wheel adult tricycle stollen from back of house. (Tricycle for balance reasons) I have no car and it was my FREEDOM to go to places too far to walk at any time, like take my little grandson to beach in the tricycle's back basket the days I cared for him. Basket for carrying a load of groceries home. Transportation to dentist's office. To drugstore, to McDonalds. 😁 I was devastated. 😭 Managed to save up enough money to buy 2nd adult tricycle which I'd securely lock to back porch. Had my freedom back! Used it for years. :-D

Reminds me of a personal experience with a trike, enough about that. But it was a fiasco, it had been over 40 years since trying to ride a bike.

My house was burgled. He didn't get anything as I scared him out the back door as I was coming in the front. He had taken our suitcases out of the closet and was filling them up.

My car was stolen. I got it back but everything in it was gone, including a set of house keys and $214 worth of library books, for which I had to pay and I also had to have the house doors rekeyed. Insurance, of course, didn't pay for those.

Our boats were in a fenced storage area at our condo complex. One was spray painted in red and the jon boat had several holes poked through it with, maybe, a hammer or crowbar. Several other residents' boats were also damaged. Security, of course, saw nothing, heard nothing, knew nothing.

Last year my purse was stolen in broad daylight as I was walking to the bus stop. A child (well, everyone looks like a child when you're 78) pulled it right out of my hands, then ran to a waiting car. Took me a month to replace all my stuff like license, bank card, etc.

Many years ago I had my wallet stolen from me in NYC: once in a movie theater, and once on 34th St.

Kind of. Our hotel room in South America was ransacked and I lost $3100 in AMEX traveler's checks which were replaced overnight. When I woke up, I saw the red light on my phone blinking. There were two messages. One was from AMEX telling me new checks were sent out via Overnight Express and the other call was from the front desk saying they had a package for me, which were my traveler's checks being delivered.
