Were you ever a victim of a crime?

I almost thought I should start a new thread because this crime is so devious that most people won't see it until they themselves experience it. Two years ago a romance scammer drew my wife into a relationship online with a story about being military intelligence and no way to phone or skype. She bought it hook line and sinker and emptied all my credit cards with cash advances to pay for some port fines on his gold shipment coming soon so they could live happily ever after. I forgave her and refinanced the car to pay off the debt.

Not two weeks passed and the cards were maxed again for the same old story. Now she swears she is meeting him in a month and he will pay back every dime. We all know that's a lie but what hurts most is that she doesn't care about our 25 year marriage and is chasing rainbows. I'm not good enough after all this time. So yes I was raped and violated in the worst way by some scammer who took me for thousands and my wife. I have no words how that feels but I have never felt so alone in all my life.

I was in the service for all but 3 years when I opened up my footlocker to get my wallet out to get some money because some of us were going out for the night. As soon as I opened my locker, I could tell someone got into it and was looking around in it . My whole wallet was gone. No money, no license, no I.D. I was really upset.

It took me almost 2 months to get everything replaced and back in order. I learned my lesson and bought a combination lock. I couldn’t believe one Marine would steal from another Marine. I was almost 100% sure of who it was, but if you don’t have proof, you’re better off saying nothing.

My husband's parents were killed in an automobile accident. Many people knew we were going to a distant state for several days to be with relatives. A couple of teenagers robbed our house taking mostly jewelry. They used their real names when they pawned the stuff and were quickly caught. Their parents made them pay us back for everything although I think we didn't account for a couple of items.

Early 20s, robbed by 4 men and leader told underling to kill me with a knife to remove possibly being identified. But I talked them out of it over about a minute. Stole wallet with trivial cash.

Late 20s, busted vehicle window on Geary Street in San Francisco while I was attending a rock concert at Winterland. Only trivial items in my car for them to steal.

Mid 30s, vehicle trunk opened at remote backpacking trailhead along with several other vehicles. They caught someone that had escaped from a jail outdoor work crew.

In my early 20's, I lived in the top floor suite of a big rooming house. I collected rent for the landlord. Foolishly, I kept the cash in my dresser drawer. One day, I came home to find my door wide open. The cash was gone, and the aerial was pushed down on my portable t.v. I guess 'they' decided not to take it. My landlord was understanding .. and, I told him I would no longer collect the rent. I'm quite sure the thief lived in the house, and the walls were thin.

I had a similar experience in a USMC barracks way back in the 70’s. It was my fault tho since i made a quick run down to the laundry room & foolishly left my wallet sitting on the bed. Young & dumb. It sure wasn’t sitting there when i got back. Like you, i was stunned & also pretty sure who took it. But since I didn’t know it for a fact I just sucked it up & did without til the next pay day. BIG life lesson learned & that lesson has served me well all these many years i.e. one would be hard pressed to get their hands on my loot today.🤣

I once had all my washing stolen off the washing line..

I was a new bride, new baby... husband at sea with the Royal Navy serving on an Aircraft carrier .. we were living in Married quarters down in the West Country... we had very little money, so to save electricity the washing could only be done once a week... which meant most of the babies clothes, and almost all of mine ( I had very few clothes).. had to be washed all at once on the same day...

I left them to dry overnight.. never occurred to me they wouldn't be safe.... woke up the next morning and every single item had gone...

Yes. Assaulted few times. Property theft. Once had two burglars climb thru my third floor window at 4.a.m. !
2 burglars cimb through your window at 4am ?.. I presume you were there...what the heck happened?

I thought it was bad when I had one burglar crlimb up to my upstairs bedroom balcony at 11pm at night... I've told this story before on here.. so I won't repeat it...so suffice it to say...he came off worst, I pushed him right off the balcony

I was living above a 3 Story Disco. Very scary moment. I called the Police and tossed them the keys to get in. Testified at a Grand Jury few months later. They were stealing all the DJ Equipment !

While in the Marines, I spent time in Oakland for training. First day there, the Captain told us if we wanted to go out to have fun to stay out of Oakland and if we were looking for fun to go over the bridge to San Francisco. We were all over that city. It’s not as big as people say it is. I remember being on Geary Street because there was an Irish pub there so we went in.

It seemed like only locals were in there. I had my first Guinness there. It was too dark and bitter tasting. I told the bartender, who definitely had an Irish accent, that I couldn’t drink it because it tasted very bitter to me. I told him I was sorry, but could I get a Miller instead. Everyone that heard me laughed. He gave me a Miller on tap and I slid him a $5 bill, but he wouldn’t take it, so I left it lay on the bar, we finished our drinks and we left.

Yes, multiple times. I had three different cars stolen over a 20 year period. One was recovered. The others were not.
Sexually assaulted (not raped) at 14.
Was mugged twice, once with serious injuries.
I was assaulted on the subway in Brooklyn, NY, a random attack by an emotionally disturbed person.
Had the batteries stolen from 2 different cars in different years.
Two different cars broken into and change taken from the ashtray.

I have had a number of items stolen from me tht I had left unattended.

But nobody has ever messed with me in person, beacuse I'm Bad.
