Were you popular in high school?

I was never popular because we moved often. When We eventually settled into our new school, I was too shy to mix in well. But when we got up to high school, things did change. 4 girls became my closest friends and was bridesmaid to one of them. We are still friendly today and meet often for coffee.

When I went to my 20 year reunion it was the quarterbacks who were fat and bald and the cheerleaders who had gotten divorced. I was successful in my career. I spoke at the reunion and was very confident in myself and what I had achieved. My high school girlfriend was my "date".

She and I split up during our senior year but we are still in touch. She's on her second husband and I'm gay so who ever knows how things are going to turn out!

Congratulations on your success Doug. 55 in your class! Our graduation class had 703 students. Ironic that the who were probably considered the hottest in your class became the least attractive and that probably who were the prettiest girls had unsuccessful marriages. You were handsome enough back then and your partner pretty enough that you could have won the Venus & Adonis titles that our class bestowed on two of the people I definitely didn't think were the best looking in our class.

There were 5000 students in my Chicago Area high school. I had a small circle of friends, but I wasn't interested enough in popularity to even be in the circle where popularity was judged. I had a couple of girl friends. I don't know who the popular kids even were. The jocks maybe? I really don't know.
 
I agree that Doug and his girlfriend were a beautiful couple and Maid Marian would have been our prom queen.

Anytime you would would see one around, there was always at least one or two others hanging close by. Alone, they were punks. That’s why they stuck together like Velcro.

Doesn't every school have a few of those guys? They would sit in the back of the class, stretched out with their legs in the aisle, and make derogatory comments about any kid who spoke up or had to walk to the front of the class. The meaner or more sexist their remarks, the harder their minions would laugh and snicker. Most of them don't go to the reunions because they might have to go alone and would have nothing to brag about, but occasionally these types are very successful in certain businesses where those with low ethics rise to the top, some even succeed in politics.
 
Yes I was popular though at the time I never thought about it in those terms. I just knew that everyone liked me and I was always invited to parties, pool hangouts etc.

I hung with a close group of friends….Josephine, Lucy, Bernadette, Jill and Clara…I guess these days you’d call it a clique, though we didn’t ever exclude anyone else, we just always hung together at lunch time, recess etc.

Speaking of personal graduation photos, the day mine was to be taken I panicked. My hair was just the style I liked and I was wearing my best sweater. But, stressing I wouldn't be able to hold my embarrassing head still for the photo, I told a close girlfriend about my "nervousness" and she gave me a pill she had for calming down. I took it about an hour before photo was to be taken.

It made me drowsy, and dull thinking by the time my photo was taken. Photo turned out horrible. I looked all drugged up. My home room teacher was shocked at how I looked in the photo & asked me why. Of course I couldn't tell her. I had my photo retaken in a studio. Hair style blah, and unflattering sweater. But the photographer was very kind concerning my head tremoring. :)
