My Grandfather was a train driver working for the Mt Lyell Copper Mine for three decades up until the closure of the line in 1963.
The train transported Copper bearing ore to the coastal town of Strahan where it was shipped to Europe for processing.
I was born in 1962 so never saw the train going about it's business.
In 2001 some people got together to reestablish the railway line between Queenstown and Strahan as a tourist attraction.
A daunting task which involved rebuilding 42 bridges along 34 kms following the King River through almost virgin rainforest.
The Railway is one of the great secrets of Tasmania mostly hidden from the world
