I lived and survived the 'Blizzard of '77' with my parents, I remember like it was yesterday. My dad and I both were working downtown at the time,I worked at a place called 'Title Guarantee',delivering title searches to the different law firms. My dad was clerk of the Federal Court,he and a few co-workers were stuck at the office for 2 days. The winds had really started to intensitify that afternoon,my dad told me to leave work& go stay with mom who was alone in house with our dog. My boss wasn't happy when I told him I was leaving early, couple other co-workers followed me out the door
This snow storm put Buffalo on the national news for a week.. Our 'nickname' is 'city of good neighbors' and it showed during this weather event,we became 'hearty souls'. All the snowstorms/blizzards we've had over the years don't faze us, we can handle anything 'mother nature' throws at us.
A couple weather records set in '77 and still in effect today
1. 68.3 inches greatest amt of snow ever in Jan'77
2.45 straight days of below freezing temps 12/26/76-2/8/77
3.199.4 inches greatest snowfall for 1 season '76-'77
For the past couple of years,we've had below normal snow totals,2017 we got 70 inches,2016 it was 50 which is fine by me. Our average is around 100 Sue
