What’s your obsession and how far do you go to satisfy it?

Some people seem obsessed with parts of or things in life. Some may name their children after famous personalities they became obsessed with or call themselves names that they identify their obsession with.

Maybe it’s shoes, electronics or even guns, what’s you obsession?

What is the difference between an obsession and an addiction? I would say I'm addicted to plants and animals. Every time I visit a pet shop, I want to take something home with me. I buy plants and flowers, but struggle to find room for them. I love bags and can't resist buying new ones, even though I have a cupboard full. (However, I do use them all, so it is not money wasted).

I’m no expert on much of anything but I’m sure that there are differences between obsessions and addictions. What those differences entail however, is beyond my scope of projection. If it makes you happy, it can’t be that bad, to quote a song I enjoy. Thanks for the share!

I think we could say that an addiction is something over which you have no control, whereas an obsession can be overcome with will power. I love plants, animals and bags and am happy to spend my money on them. If I find I cannot resist the urge to buy more, then I would consider that my obsession has become an addiction.

If you’re happy, I’m happy for you

Horses. Love them, can't get enough of working with them. At one time I had 30 to play with. Last one dies this week, and I am rather lost.
I like that you have a source of happiness in your life's obsession but I'm, at the same time, saddened that you lost the one.
I hope that your grieving will be short and your happy memories live forever in your heart. Thanks for sharing.

No obsessions that I can think of, other than finishing whatever I start. I don't like things left undone if I can complete the task. No addictions, either.
I very much enjoy taking a peek around a corner of a new city, village or town, curiosity tells me to see what I can while I'm there.
Oh! Obsessed to satisfy my curiosity maybe?

My obsession is interesting information and I read a lot. (I'd read every moment I'm awake if I could.)
Currently I am reading "All That Remains " by one of the leading forensic anthropologists in the world Professor Dame Sue Black of Dundee University. It is very interesting, and it explains how she got to that place in her life. She is often called by Police in the UK to assist with the identification of human remains and to find out the "who, why. where, when and how " of the death. She has also been the lead investigator into the War Crimes that occurred during the war in the former Yugoslavia. That took 3 years to complete. To say she is good at what she does would be a great understatement, to be sure. A truly intelligent and articulate woman, who also has a wicked sense of humor. I highly enjoyed it. JimB.

I am obsessed with dogs that need homes. For many years I always had 4 old dogs that others didn’t want. Now I have had a reality check that I can only have 2 since I bought a condo and finances limit my ability to have more. Plus I have to consider what will happen after I die. I am also obsessed with exercising. I have to do it at least 4xs a week.

My obsession is road trips. No matter how often we take off on one, there's always one more to plan... one more destination to research... one more route to map out to somewhere new and exciting. And one of my favorite parts of that is finding the small but fabulous mom & pop eateries along the way.
The wife & I traveled a lot before retirement. Walked in 49 of the 50 states in the USA. I missed N Dakota somehow but made it to Alaska & Hawaii to & from my military service in the far east. Like you we tried to stay off the interstates & traveled many back roads, seeing some interesting sites, meeting some real characters along the way.

I guess I'm obsessed with becoming better at what I do and having a healthier lifestyle, if that makes sense. I like to read a lot so I can learn and take courses, if needed. I like to read about health, so I can become even healthier.
