I remember when I bought my new 1981 Chevy Camaro Z-28 with V-8 and pretty much fully loaded for $8000.00. I was still in college and I wasn't going to buy such an expensive car, but my grandparents said that I needed a dependable car that wasn't going to nickel and dime me to death. I had plenty of money in my trust for college, but since I was given a free ride to the Naval Academy, I thought I would spend some of the money on the new car that really caught my eye. I wish now I would have kept it.

My wife bought a 57 Chev 2 dr brand new for $1900. It had a 3 speed manual on the column, a heater and an AM radio.

Bought a brand new 1968 Road Runner. $2500 out the door.(tax and all). Being young and a bit dumb, it lasted 28 hours before I totaled it. Of course, I still had the 33 chevy to fall back on.

Some of the cars made in the 50's thru the 70's are worth a fortune today...compared to what they cost new. A 1957 Chevy BelAir 2 dr,. hardtop in fully restored condition today can easily be worth over $100K...compared to $2k when new.
Wife is a 57 chevy lover. (me... I'm a 55 man through and through). :) Over the years, we've had a few. Matter of fact, she's scouring the internet to acquire one again.
Here's a couple.

My first new car was a 1966 VW with the mighty, new 50 hp, 1300 cc engine. Bare bones, not even a radio, it was $1,763.01 "out the door".

It was Bahama Blue with a black vinyl interior.
