What are some illusions in life that don't match all the hype?

Because, I believe, it's part of the constitution in the U.S., it's like your civic duty. But I got out of it playing my valid trauma card with my MD and he gave me a permanent excuse.

You are right, there can be harrowing things in a jury trial. And even if there isn't, it's conflict. Very controlled but conflict none the less.

well we don't have Constitution Law in the UK, so I wonder what excuse there is to make ordinary citizens sit through harrowing details that may scar them for life..

Holly, can one get a medical excuse in the UK like you can in the U.S.?

No one should be forced. I remember when I went for jury duty selection (I was let go due to being a victim of a crime, one of the questions they asked) there was this female nut that seemed all giddy from the process. She wanted to be selected. I don't know if she was. But I think some people get off on that stuff. I worked with someone who thought it would be so interesting. Until she went to the jury selection and it was a gang member going on trial for murder. She was no longer so interested and wasn't selected.

yes you can be medically exempt here.. but of course most people are not medically unfit, certainly not young 21 year old with impressionable minds...

In a lot of water, whether in a shower, pool, hot tub, or ocean, Mother Nature's natural lubricant gets washed away, which can make things uncomfortable. If you want to go there, using a silicone-based lubricant is helpful. TMI? Tuff, lol. 🤭

Got a small bottle of it in my nightstand. Haven't had the opportunity to use it, but I guess it's part of my military training. Always be prepared.

I freely concede digital/online makes some things easier & simpler, but it complicates & frustrates too... and seems to leave kids (at least many of them) socially distanced & inept, and often divorced from nature. And, too, on their website systems, too many businesses & services leave one "key-chatting" with some cloddish, unhelpful AI system! or waiting for an email response that never comes.

Case in point to what I posted before...

Our home phone isn't functioning properly. Much of the time, there's no dial tone & call cannot be made. When it is "functioning" there is very heavy static. A year ago, similar problem occurred and I was able to get help by calling the company (from a neighbor's home). And a technician came out & the situation was fixed.

This time, I tried reporting the problem from a neighbor's home two days ago, and spent an hour & 40 minutes being shuffled through reps who had no technical knowledge and limited power to do anything. I was not able to book a technician's appointment to our home.

After that, I decided to try the company's online system. First I dealt with an AI "robot" for five minutes, Then, with the human, there was a lot of Identity-verification red-tape to wade through. The appointment was supposedly made, after about a half hour of text "chatting" back & forth. However, a voicemail message was left for us yesterday that seemed the company still needed us to confirm that we would be here when the tech came.

So, now I'm on that online chat system again, and have not been able to get the "robot" to understand that, again, I need to text chat with a human!!

The frustration you are going through is so familiar to many of us. The concept of actual customer service has been turned over to something with no blood or aptitude for grasping anything more complex than "pay my bill".

For what it's worth, I experienced a similar problem a few years back when I had a home phone, and it was heavy static, as you described. It turned out to be the street connection where the phone company tie in connects to the line coming to your house. It is usually in a box at the street so it's readily available to them. Anyway, that connection is supposed to be water tight, but it degrades with time, and moisture causes the static. If there's not one at the street, there may be one on the side of your house. It just needs to be re-done.
 
Family, friendship, love and riches are not what they are made out to be. Not for everyone anyway. Plus exercise gets a lot of hype for the amount of work it takes. LOL!
 
That old illusion of, "Take care of your body and it'll take care of you." Ha! For some of us, that's just not true. Genetics is just against some of us from Day One.
