What are the best "gel cushions"?

Does anyone here use those 'cool gel' seat cushions? You know the ones with a honeycomb structure that are supposed to distribute weight and return to original shape when you get up so they don't compress and get lumpy like regular ones?

I'm thinking with where my back problem is, one of them could be very helpful. But there are several brands, so if anyone has personal experience, good or bad, with a particular brand i'd be interested in any suggestions.

We have four or five different gel seat cushions. They all work well, it's just a matter of your preference. They tend to be fairly heavy, a consideration if you want to use it when traveling - I keep one in the car for restaurant dining, so it's a bit thinner and lighter but still heavier than a foam cushion would be.

The thicker gel ones work very well, too. Because all of them are VERY flexible (meaning they flop over easily), make sure you get one with a cover. I carry mine in a canvas tote with handles so it's less obvious what it is. Sorry, can't remember what brand my 'portable' gel cushion was as it was so long ago when I bought it from Amazon.

Do measure your chairs! Some of these cushions are meant for larger/wider chair seats.

I did not find any of the memory foam cushions worth the money. I'm overweight and they flatten down to nothing, not helpful at all for my back. The gel cushions are vastly superior.

Sorry I couldn't help with specific brands, but I hope some of the above tips help.

Sorry I can't give personal advice Feywon. Will you be purchasing from a medical supply store or from Amazon? I bet Amazon carries them and at least some will have reviews. Of course, some reviews must be taken with a grain of salt.

I’m not sure if that describes the ones we use, Ramasana, or not, but the last time we tried to order more from Amazon it wasn’t offered. But I do find it by googling it. Memory foam I believe. We each have one at the table where we eat, another in the car and another which, in my case is on my desk chair, in my room. The one in the car is always available to use when we're out and I also use mine when sitting in an Adirondack chair in the garden. Here is the hype they use to sell it now.

"Ultra portable seat cushion that hugs & supports your body perfectly for pain-free flights. Breakthrough Air Cells supports your body & prevents pain."

If you find something you love please let us know.

My computer chair has a Obus Forme cushion that I bought from their Canadian website online. 7 years of daily use, still holds it's shape and looks like new. They are also sold in the US through Amazon. JIMB>
