What are you cooking or baking today?

SO left at the crack of dawn and should be in Gallup, NM for dinner.
That means fridge spelunking for me. I already dealt with the two slices of grilled pork roast from Thursday. Delightful with stoneground mustard and cucumber. It was so cold that the ignitors of the grill did not come on and he had to use a candle lighter.
Now a glass of wine. Boiled egg, grilled potatoe wedges, slice of parmesan?

I made some orange/pecan bread today. The house smells of oranges now.
I sure wish I was there to have some! That sounds soooo good. Even though I know the bread is different, this made me think of when my mother used to make orange cake. Yellow cake with orange icing, which she made with grated orange peels; everything from scratch, of course.

Today I baked sugar free egg custard. It was my first time doing it in my new air fryer-toaster. I'll have one with whipped cream for dessert tonight (hope I can eat just one).

I'm preparing brunch for 7 this morning on this stormy Sunday morning. The headliner is Yankee style biscuits and gravy. For the non red meat eaters and non diary folks we'll have smoked salmon, bagels, w all the trimmings, scrambled eggs, bacon, english muffins, scones, green salad, etc. My wife made a coffee cake yesterday and we'll have some fruit as well. Fresh squeezed oj, champagne, and coffee to drink.

2 hours to go!

Ham,cheese and potato casseroles....three 9 X 13 pans. A fruit combo bowl.....about 5 lbs of it. Tomorrow two 9 X 13 pans of blueberry crumble for dessert.. Two days ago I made a quantity of dinner rolls, half and half whole wheat and bread flour.....they're in the freezer at the moment.
This is all for the twice a month Bridging Forward meeting that meets tomorrow night. About forty people show up and we start with dinner.
I usually have a partner to share the meal prep with but this time I'm the solo cook.

Made Blueberry Oat muffins from a new recipe. Good flavor that isn't sweet & has a nice texture from the oats. They came out pretty good & I believe this will be a keeper recipe.

Yesterday I cooked kale greens with onion, chicken stock & a smoked ham hock to eat for today. I'll make some cheesy grits to go with it.

Well everyone seemed to have a good time at our brunch today, folks are aged 64 - 85yo and it was mixed group of R's and D's so everyone pretended @Matrix was listening in. It was a very welcome relief, however folks in that age group just can not stop talking about their bodily functions and medical stuff. yuck!!! Like 5 yo's! 😉

I do enjoy preparing food for loved ones and the older folks remind me of my parents and aunts and uncles, (as some of you do here) and how much they did for us when we were young. I need to find a home for leftover cake and b&g now though.
