What Are You Doing To Keep The Cobwebs Out Of Your Brain?

I add numbers in my head whenever feasible. I'm playing a couple of challenging word games and puzzles (Words With Friends, Cody Cross and Word Crush). I also do the word searches, play Mahjong, Block puzzle, Glow hockey (air hockey) and other games on my devices from time to time. It's been said that playing games can help with brain function, reflexes and coordination. I've started back practicing piano and working on my compositions which means I have to focus and concentrate.

Well for starters, I come here every day and see what folks are thinking about and what I might learn, ... especially if it is an alternative way of looking at something. There are some pretty bright people on this forum and I am quite interested in what they have to say.

Here lately, I have had quite a number of things that needed to be repaired and tracking down the parts and making the repairs can require quite a few "brainwaves." Toss in some reading, a couple of games, and trying to hold up my end of the discussion when I have coffee with my wife in the morning every day makes me "good-to-go."

I have a friend who lives about 20 miles from me in Gettysburg. He has a really great setup and a flight simulator. I go there and play on that thing for hours. That's where I was most of the evening last night. You can choose any airports to fly in and out of and any size plane. Then, you can choose weather conditions and other factors. It's a lot of fun besides making a person use their mind and time just flies (no pun intended) by. If I want, I can make my plane on the game have a mechanical issue, like maybe the landing gear won't drop or an engine flame-out.

Sort of similar to this one I found on YouTube. The price is a little salty at around $35,000.00

Hmm, not what you are doing 😂

I play word games on here every day... :giggle:

I play a quick 10 minute multi genre question quiz every day... against my friend...

I enjoy cryptic crosswords which I do for at least 20 minutes every day... (offline)

if I want to at any time I can play several general knowledge quizzes on my phone.. (and I do if I'm anywhere where I have to wait in a queue)

I keep up-to-date with politics.. not here , clearly..

....so I hope I'm keeping my brain active enough to stop the grey cells from ceasing up...:sneaky:

I know what you mean about learning while participating in forums. I've learned a lot here and on another that I've been on for several years. One of the smartest, most well read people I've ever known is there and we've been online friends for close to 15 years. There are others there (and here) that have a lot to offer. After all we Boomers and Seniors have a whole lot of years of wisdom between us.

For yrs,I've been doing the NYT daily crossword puzzle.I usually finish Mon&Tues.I time myself to see how long it takes me to finish, between 10-35 min depending on the puzzle. They get harder as the week goes by.I recently became a subscriber to the paper{M-F} there are couple different puzzles I ck out online
In our local paper,{except on Sun} there is daily word game I've become addicted to.Each day is a new word, you have to come up with other words The total # of words changes each day can be from 20-40 Today's word is 'ointment'.I have to come up with 31 words,I'm halfway there, results in tomorrow's paper I write down the words I couldn't come up with
I have a couple wordsearch puzzle books, also like to do 'find the difference' books to keep my mind sharp

WOW WOW WOW

My FIL was an engineer for commercial flight simulators - He would probably appreciate this rig. Very cool.

We do the NYT crossword every day, after breakfast, together. Monday thru Wednesday is too easy, so on those days we do old Thursday, Friday, and Saturday puzzles. Then after dinner, we do an old puzzle. Before our unfortunate incarceration, we played bridge every Thursday. I try to play a few bridge games online every day, but it's not the same. Although I do get better cards online! LOL! We do 1000 piece jigsaws. However, these days I find that I am short of patience and long on frustration. We read. We used to take day trips to different place and learn new things. Now we just have Puerta Backyarda to explore. Sigh.

I have a word game on my iphone - Wordscapes and there are levels - it's not bad but a bit boring. I do Torstars tv guide crossword every week. Hubby and I play games. I read. I do a testing for my brain every once in awhile - it is sent by email as I attended a "Brain study" at a seniors centre a couple of years ago. It would tell me if I am deteriorating, i.e., I guess dementia or Alzheimers. I keep on up the news (mostly). I go for walks everyday. I come here to bug and annoy everyone.

I’m practicing my music so am doing a lot of transposing . Lately I’m listing all the songs and music I really like to play and sing in hopes of creating my own music. It’s a lot of fun and I’m surprised at all the new things that can be done with music via computers.

What type of music do you play? Do you sight read? How long have you played piano?
Do you compose any of your own music?

Decluttering our house and working on kitchen renovations is keeping my mind sharp as well as frustrating me. Lol

I play word and trivia games with friends over the phone. I do still have some work to do from home but I can't focus on that as much as usual so really clutters my mind more than clearing it. Long walks listening to music helps me too.
