What are you favorite opening lyrics to a song ?

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah

I don't plan on shadows and darkness
You are returning to us the morning land
..
The Herd From the Underworld

Don't dream it's over - Crowded house

There is freedom within
There is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There's a battle ahead
Many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're travelling with me

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win
U.S. actor Josh Gad covered this beautifully on the Peacock series Wolf Like Me, first season (I forget which episode).

Here's mine:

"At Seventeen" by Janis Ian

"I learned the truth at seventeen
That love was meant for beauty queens
And high school girls with clear skinned smiles
Who married young and then retired"

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night

always stirs the blood in me when I hear the chords and words - cum on we all know this one?? - set in California?

That song has one of my favorite ending lines to a song....

My all time favorite Drifters song.
Well, Saturday night at eight o'clock
I know where I'm gonna go
I'm a-gonna pick my baby up
And take her to the picture show
Everybody in the neighborhood
Is dressing up to be there, too
And we're gonna have a ball
Just like we always do

Saturday night at the movies
Who cares what picture you see
When you're hugging with your baby
Last row in the balcony?

Janis Ian's music is so poignant and underrated. That entire album (Between the Lines) is masterful.

From the movie “Cheek to Cheek” with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

“Heaven, I'm in heaven
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we're out together, dancing cheek to cheek”

They don’t make them like that anymore.

Aguas de Marco (Waters of March) - Antonio Carlos Jobim

A stick, a stone
It's the end of the road
It's the rest of a stump
It's a little alone

It's a sliver of glass
It is life, it's the sun
It is night, it is death
It's a trap, it's a gun

The oak when it blooms
A fox in the brush
A knot in the wood
The song of a thrush

The wood of the wind
A cliff, a fall
A scratch, a lump
It is nothing at all

It's the wind blowing free
It's the end of the slope
It's a beam, it's a void
It's a hunch, it's a hope

And the river bank talks
Of the waters of March
It's the end of the strain
The joy in your heart
