What are you NOT buying lately?

I have decided to stop buying paper plates, bottled water, and red cups due to the rising prices on everything and based on our usage of these products. We use too much. I am also cutting back on fresh fruit. I should not be eating fruit at all due to my diabetes.

We have also cut way back on buying candy and I am trying to not buy any at all. I have replaced his candy stash with nuts. 😊. And a wide variety of snacks that I don’t care for that much. Not a whole lot cheaper but healthier.

I will not be buying many annuals this year. Instead, any new plants will be perennials. All of my annuals died, of course, and I buy what’s on clearance, but it adds up. Closing down and mulching over two annual beds in the front yard will make a difference to the budget.

What money saving things are you doing this year?

I’ve been making an effort to cut back on food purchases.

At the height of the pandemic I was shopping every two weeks and ended up with a stockpile of various things that I don’t normally keep on hand.

Now I shop the freezer and the pantry before I go grocery shopping. I shop twice a week since my vaccination. I try to edit my grocery list and only buy what I need until the next trip to the store.

I’ve also been buying less stuff and driving less.

My world has definitely gotten smaller since the beginning of the pandemic.

Mostly entertainment things. A couple of clubs we belonged to are not open yet so no dues there. They might not ever re-open and I am not sure we would go back now anyway. Also season tickets to a local little theater and movies. We never ate out at much, but now not at all. We also spend a lot less on gas since we don't go much. I will be going back to the grocery store in May instead of doing curbside now that I am vaccinated, so food should cost me less. My world is a lot smaller now too.

Lumber. Was planning an addition on the house. Stalled out now with a bit less than half the lumber I need.:mad: Got 50 2x4x8's sitting here, along with enough tile to do an entire bathroom including walk in shower. Unfortunately, I only have about 1/3rd of the osb I need, and none of the advantech subfloor, although I do have the 2x12 floor joists. Just don't know which way to turn. I'll not even mention roofing. (oh, I just did). 🤪

I'm not making or buying any baked goods. I can't eat it because of my diet and the hubby prefers a small bowl of ice cream in the evening.
We haven't had any company in months so I don't have to bake for that.
I only buy meat that is on sale and stretch it to the limit with casseroles, and soups.
I don't buy prepackaged salad greens.
Instead I make slaw or carrot, broccoli ,cucumber , or bean salad. All this takes is a couple of ingredients rather than buying bottles of salad dressing.
I rarely buy wipes for the bathroom but if I do I cut them in half or add half paper towel sheets to the canister since there seems to be an excess of the cleaner left in the bottom. That's all I need for a quick daily cleanup.

I don't have to purchase as much gas since I don't go anywhere except work and back.

I haven't been shopping for anything except things I need. No extras. Since I don't go anywhere I haven't needed new clothes in forever. Used to be when I went to Walmart or Dillons I'd come out with stuff that was off list. Not anymore. LOL

I don't let covid-19 beat me. I've still bought new clothes and boots, and sketchers.. and new make-up ( make-up goes off ya know )....

I have a horrible feeling that prices are going to shoot up, so I'm getting everything in before it does...
Good for you Hols. I splurged on my undereye cream which went up $12.00 per tube since the last time I bought it but it keeps my eyes looking their best. :giggle: If I could get into a store again, I'd definitely buy some summer undies. I'm not the granny panties type. :ROFLMAO:

Nothing beats a comfy pair of granny panties. LOL!
