What Are Your Kitten/Cat's Favorite Food and Toy?

@Murrmurr, what brand of cat food were you using?
I tried a few - 9 Lives, Friskies, Tastefuls and one other I can't remember. I've also ordered cases from this independent catfood producer who only sells online; Dave's. Dave's only costs about 5 to 10 cents more per can, and claims to be all pure, natural, real ingredients, but they kept running out of Pixel's favorite flavors.

It's hard when they have favorites & you can't find them. I've been using Friskes pate for a long time. Used shreds when pate was scarce during the shortages & they didn't care for the texture very much. I always mix up the gravy in the food for them & for mixing up the Cosequin in the older cats food.

Hope your little guy feels better soon!

Thank you Doug. Yes, despite her devilishness sometimes, she's always doing things to make us laugh and love her even more.

@PeppermintPatty I think I'll have to go back to ordering Friskies Meaty Bits and I'm going to try Chewy's brand of cat food in gravy. They each have a better price (per ounce) than the Kirkland cat food. I stopped buying Friskies because other customers and I were receiving damaged shipments. I saw the complaints on Amazon and Chewy. I also decided I'm pretty much going to get her food from Chewy. Their prices are comparable to Amazon and I get to talk to a human pretty quickly whenever there's a problem.
Well we all know how finicky cats can be.
Im glad you found a good cat food supplier. There’s nothing like an unhappy cat meowing in the middle of the night while you’re trying to sleep. Lovely pets they are but at times a real PITA. ( said with much love )

I was wondering about the brand also but I think this is probably an issue with many. I give my cats the gravy lovers fancy feast which is like sheds.

I can't imagine buying chicken or something to feed them. I don't know. I have a vet appointment for Talia this Tuesday. I'll ask.

I've watched several YouTube videos of people cooking up their own catfood at home. Looks like a huge hassle. They boil, chop, mash, run some of it through a blender, put it in containers, label them with dates and then freeze these, refrigerate those....

The one benefit is that you know exactly what's in it.

After feeding all dry, we switched over to canned quite a while ago. Since they are adults, they get fed twice a day with no food left down. They also get a few kitty treats once in a while.

Our vet had been at a conference & the speaker talked about diabetes & the rise of it in cats. He asked three questions & the first was how many had patients with this problem. Almost all raised their hands. He then asked how many of those cats are on dry food. The same hands went up again. The last was how many of these cats were overweight & just about the same hands went up again.

The speaker said that dry foods can't contain all the protein that cats need & there is too many carbs for them causing weight gain. The first thing he did with his diabetic patients was to switch them to wet if they were on dry. These cats lost weight & in quite a few cases the disease was reversed.

Between the crystal in urine problem with our first cat & hearing about the rise in diabetes in cats from the seminar, our vet made us believers in feeding wet.

Our second cat wanted only one flavor, would refuse anything else & we indulged him. We now feed all flavors from the time they're kittens in rotation & no one has gotten picky.

Good luck with your little guy.
Thank you for this great info. I just bought two palates of ProPlan wet food for Urinary Tract so we'll give that a try!

Pixel saw the vet yesterday. His gums are inflamed. I didn't notice that, but then, I didn't think to check. His gums on the left side are swollen and real red, so the vet thinks it hurts to eat. He said it might be an autoimmune disorder, did a blood test, and gave him 2 antibiotic injections, one in each shoulder. The blood test ruled out leukemia as the cause.

Vet said Pixel might have an ulcer in his throat, too, but the antibiotics will help with that.

We go back in 2 weeks. Meantime, he wants me to keep giving Pixel soupy canned food* but start introducing a little bit of it straight-from-the can in a few days; like, put down a bowl with a tablespoon or two of regular canned stuff next to his bowl of soupy stuff. When his mouth feels better, he'll eat the regular stuff. Then I can try kibble soaked in warm water, and so on.

*for over a month now, he'll only eat canned food "soup" - I stir in plenty of water, squish all the chunks with the back of a spoon, and then strain out any little hard bits.

I'm amazed at the amount of what looked like tiny bone shards in canned catfood. Except for salmon. The salmon flavored ones didn't have any bone shards, or whatever those were. Could have been bits of plastic for all I know. I also found lots of what appears to be tiny bits of fiber, like cotton or wool or something.
Wishing you and pixel the best, Frank, @Murrmurr. Our previous cat had gum disease and it can lead to renal failure. We put a liquid additive into our cats' water bowl that helps clean their teeth and gums without brushing. I can't remember the brand right now, but our cats got good teeth checkups recently and Busgy is 8 y/o.

This reminds me, I need to ask her vet about what to do to clean her teeth. I've seen chew sticks on Amazon but would she use them properly, or at all? The liquid additive sounds interesting...certainly easy. Thanks for that info Doug.
