What are your Spring-cleaning traditions? Do you have one?

Spring is here. It's time to spruce up the place. I am going to go through every room and put stuff where it should be and get rid of things I will never use again. I'm even going to get the shed, too. It's my spring tradition. I've been saying that for 30-40 years, and I've never actually did it. But this years.......... Well, do you do the spring-cleaning thing? Are you like the Clampetts of "Beverly Hills" where they moved all the furniture outside to scrub down the house? Or are you like me?

I remember my mom making us drag all the mattresses out into the yard, where they satleaning on the fence in the sun for hours. Throw rugs were hung on the clothes line and beaten. All the lace curtains were carefully washed, "blued", and stretched on wooden frames in the sun to dry. Comforters and quilts got the sun treatment, too.

Our back yard looked like either a flea market or a Gypsy encampment.

Spring Cleaning was serious business back then. It was "all hands on deck" and Heaven help the kid who slacked off.

I don't have a particular routine, but this year I am doing the most thorough cleaning I have ever done. It feels good to be able to find things by eliminating so much clutter.
:)

Nothing compared to when I was a kid.

Changing over the old wooden storm windows for summer screens and washing all of the windows in the process with hot water and vinegar then buffing them dry with an old newspaper is the thing that I remember most.

I throw open all of the windows and let the spring breeze rearrange the dust.

In spring, the house & gutters will be cleaned if we can find someone to do it. When we clean the windows, we put the screens back on. Taking them off for the winter makes a big difference in the brightness of the rooms. Any cleaning in the house is just random. When I move clothes from the guest room to the main closet, I’ll weed out some things.

Yes, I still put pillows out in the sun.
As for spring cleaning......my patio gets a good cleaning in the spring, but, the rest of house is lucky just to get the basics, my windows have not been cleaned in years, wish I could find someone to clean them.

When we were in a house, I cleaned all the windows (inside & outside), every season. Here, the condo has people who do it.

Part of my Spring Cleaning, is, going through closets/drawers to set aside things for Goodwill. We're fortunate to have a Goodwill bin in our recycle room, for clothing.

When we lived in the mountains it was an absolute necessity. We had a wood-burning stove and fireplace and they cause a mess. Plus, all the bugs, spiders, and occasional mouse that wintered in our cabin had to be chased or carried outside.

No spring cleaning here, though. We just keep it clean and tidy all the time.

How about "company's coming" cleaning?

You're expecting someone to stay and go into panic mode" "OMG, THE TOWELS NEED FOLDING NEATER and HOW DID THAT LIGHT FIXTURE GET SO DUSTY and THE PANTRY IS A MESS!!!!!"

Stuff you've been living with for months (or to honest, years) but has immediately become critical.

I was expecting company in February and went into a frenzy of polishing, scrubbing, etc and my house absolutely shone. Then, the visit was canceled. At least I got a spotless house out of it (not that it was all that bad before but I can't say it was spotless, at least not with a straight face.....)

You're all gonna shake your head.. and maybe hate me a little bit *ducks for cover*.... BUT....I have to admit I do those Spring cleaning jobs you've all mentioned just about every month...:p:devilish:

When I was a kid my family used to make a bonfire in the spring and put the pans in it to 'clean'. I don't know if they didn't have brillo pads back then or what.
I used to try to do spring cleaning, mostly I remember getting the surfaces to reappear and putting tablecloth on the table. But, I don't know where my energy has gone, it has been a long time since I did a good clean (though prepping to sell the house is forcing me to try).

my windows have not been cleaned in years, wish I could find someone to clean them.
Keep looking til you find somebody😉
Yesterday, for the first time in my life, i had a husband/wife team come to the house and clean all of the windows. They look SO amazingly good that i went ahead and booked a return engagement for 6 months down the road….all this despite initially thinking that they weren’t THAT dirty to start with….boy was i wrong lololol

Not sure if this counts, but yesterday I finally conceded to my mobility and balance issues, and had a housekeeper come to help me do a deep clean on the place. She did a great job, She knew yesterday was a trial, as it were. But I decided I will keep having her come, at least until I get through my post surgery rehab, and then take it from there. I figure every 4-6 weeks for now. She came recommended by a friend who lives in the building. She charges $20 an hour. But it was money well spent
