What are your ten most favorite sounds?

Gaer

"Angel whisperer"
This is a happy exercise. What are your ten most favorite sounds?
Mine are:

Whispers from my angels
water gurgling over rocks in a mountain stream
raindrops on the roof
My kids laughing with me on the phone
birds singing
The voice of a man with a deep, calm, soft timber to it
love songs from the 50's/60's
thunder
My Mother had a soft, melodic voice, almost like music
silence in the stillness

That's my ten. What's yours?

I don't know if I can come up with 10, Gaer, but here are the standouts for me...

  • Whenever my husband calls home form work and says, "hi sweetheart"
  • The crackling of a wood burning fireplace
  • The lapping of water against rocks/shoreline
  • Christmas music around Christmas time
  • Gregorian Chants
  • Loose rustling leaves being blown around in the fall
  • The haunting whir of the wind sneaking in through a cracked window in the middle of the night
  • Bagpipes
  • Black-Capped Chickadees calling out in the spring

Yes they really are! :)

I came across Gregorian Chants about 25 years ago while perusing a book store. The owner had a CD playing and I inquired about it. Ever since then I have played two Gregorian Chant CD's that I bought every Christmas.
My husband and listen to these chants every morning as a form of meditation. It’s very soothing to the soul which I presume is why they do it.

Voices of two of my toddler g-nieces. They make my heart happy.
Sound of waves crashing on the shoreline; specifically when going to sleep. They lure me right to sleep.
Birds chirping.
The sound of a Woodpecker going crazy makes me happy.
My late mother's soothing voice.
Hubby calling me 'Sweetie'.
The whir of a fan on a hot night (or, for me, any night.)
The first bite of a crisp apple.
That mushy sound of stirring mac and cheese.

The poof of a pillow being fluffed.

A lot of mine are from my childhood.
The sound radiators made as they warmed the house on a cold winters morning.
The sound the chains made as cars went through the snowy roads.
Coal going down the shute to our coal bin
The coffee pot percolating
Birds chirping
Our cats purring
My dad playing the organ and his guitar.
The ice cream truck
My grand kids yelling, "hello Oma" when they come for a visit
The sound of the Vicks humidifier perking away when I was sick in bed. Very comforting.

Birds chirping.
Frogs during mating season. (Spring)
Wind chimes.
Storms.
Wind whistling.
Rain on tin roof.
My kids laughter.
My dog's playing together.
Hoot owls.
When my kids say, I love you mom. 🥰
Becky, I've never heard a hoot owl. Is that a Southern thing?

The way Collin says "Hi-i" to everyone
When Michelle says "Listen to me; I love you" after I list all the reasons she shouldn't
Collin's hearty laughter
The way the homeless cat meows when I open my back door and he wants breakfast. It sounds like he's saying "breck?"
The large bird that "talks" to me from the palm tree behind my apartment
Collin's little knock on my door when he gets here
My granddaughter, Ariel, yapping for 15 minutes straight about a silly conversation she had with her friend, Saia
The sss-poof sound when I light the little bunsen burner under my tea-pot

That's only eight, but....

Bagpipes, yes! I love them.

Those two raccoons would have me wrapped around their little fingers!
A few nights ago, a huge raccoon that I've never seen before showed up. Looks like a pregnant female; looks like she swallowed a watermelon. She also asked for seconds; she's probably about to have at least 3 babies. She didn't let me near her for a couple of days, but last night she started eating while I was still putting food in the bowl.
I added almonds & walnuts to make sure her babies are healthy. I can't wait to see them; a few years ago, another raccoon brought her babies to my cafe. :giggle:
