What cddvd player should I buy? Not too expensive

Would anyone know what would be a good cd/DVD player to buy? Not too expensive.
I want to get some CDs for music in my room.
I want something not too complicated. I had just a DVD player before.
I am a 78 year old lady.
I want one with a really good sound
 

Can you be a little more specific?

Music normally comes on CDs. I haven't seen many audio releases on DVD. Do you want it to play video from DVDs on your TV? If so, what types of inputs does your TV accept? HDMI? Composite video?

Or a small portable with a built-in screen?

Do you want something with speakers, or do you want to play music through your TV or something?

Are you after a portable device? A mini-portable like the old DiscMan? A countertop device?
 

I am looking for a countertop device to play my CDs .
I just want a good brand with a good sound for my apartment.
With or without speakers. It would have to fit on a small table.
For under $150.

It seems that you don't mind if its a stand alone device or something that connects to an existing audio device. I wonder though if a stand alone device is what you are looking for, something that comes with its own speakers?

Do you have a particular style in mind? What did you have before?
