What-cha watchin'? Live or recorded?

Since I don't stay up late enough to watch much other than the news live, I record and watch later. Used to have cable & Netflix, but finances caused to to downsize to Dish. Don't like it, but that's what I've got. Not near the previous selection, but do get the major channels.

Now watching "The Elizabeth Smart Story." So sad the way the family was treated. Have King & Maxwell, Blue Bloods, House, Extreme Homes and You live in what? recorded for later. Plus a big collection of reruns of L&O SVU, and even Murder She Wrote and Matlock! It is a cushion for getting used to this life lived alone. So what is your selection?

I've downsized too ... really downsized. Before my husband passed earlier this year, this house had every cable channel available! My husband recorded about 20-30 programs a week ... he watched about 5 of them!

I'm down to TV antenna watching - no more cable, no more recording anything. Not really a TV person, so I'm doing just fine with about 40 "free" channels at my disposal. I love sports, so this week it's been NBA finals, NHL finals. When I did have U-verse, I only watched a few shows anyway, like HGTV and a movie occasionally. And I watched and continue to watch old reruns of King of Queens, etc. .. puts me right to sleep!

Lately I've been watching the college world series. When the games are over I plan to watch some DVDs I just got of the Ellery Queen tv series.

Sounds like we are in the same boat, more or less. My husband died this January. Lost 3/4 of my income and may have to move soon. Not a fun time. So sorry you share this sadness.

I record virtually everything I watch. That way, I can speed through the commercials which I know are necessary, but I hate 'em.

We have Comcast cable and two DVRs. How did we live without DVRs?! Gotta get another cup of coffee? Snack? Phone call? Whatever. Just pause and get back to the program any ol' time.

I love the substance channels: Discovery, Science, NatGeo, etc., etc. For sports it's MMA fights. (I finally found a sport I like to watch.)

And I'm getting to be a movie watcher. Never paid much mind to movies all my life, but I'm catching up.

Would be happy with just broadcast tv via rabbit ears but reception is lousy here so had to go with satellite. Really care only for local news, old movies and sports. That NBA final was exciting! Don't bother trying to record anything as I'll just never get around to watching it. Mostly, it's just mindless entertainment and if not careful could waste my mind away lost in the vaste emptiness. Laughing at stupid info commercials for a couple of minutes is always fun . . .

It's been years since I've watched a commercial, just fast forward or mute past them. Just recently realized people actually discuss them. When that happened I was, of course, at a loss to understand what was being discussed. Guess I've got to watch one now and then!

Wishing you all the best Jan. I do know it's a tough time. I still haven't figured out my situation, so I'll just act like everything is going to be fine. Extended family always eases the burden. Hope you have support.

Guessing that you don't watch Super Bowl games. They are all about the commercials! Love the Clydesdale horses and the monkey ones. Forgot who does the chimps commercials .. financial service? Anyhow, they are great.

Nope, sorry, not into watching sports. In previous years I have seen some of the commercials that were replayed. Very creative.

Rarely record anything unless we can't watch it for whatever reason...then we often forget to watch them, anyway. Don't care for reality shows; hubby watches some sports and we do watch Nascar.
"Everybody loves Raymond" is fun, also old westerns, AMC...most of the new stuff is just not our cup of tea. We get Netflix, and that accounts for a lot of entertainment. Documentaries are usually interesting too.

I enjoy the webcams...especially the animals - fun watching little ducks in the Spring, the fawns, etc.

Speaking of documentaries, I watched a "Nature" one the other day on the invasion of Giant Pythons in the Everglades National Park. Talk about frightening (especially because I live in Florida) those guys grow fast and HUGE! They can actually eat alligators! All this has come about because people get them as pets and in a year or two they are too big for them, so they go let them loose in the Everglades.

Boo's Mom, so sorry you lost your hubby, that must be very hard for you. :love_heart: Do you use the indoor rabbit ears antenna? Since they switched to digital, I've been having reception issues with my smaller TVs in the kitchen and living room. When I have the picture, it is EXCELLENT...but I'm constantly adjusting the antenna, especially on a windy day for some reason. Screen going black, weird digital pictures/sounds drive me insane sometimes. Sometimes I can watch show after show without interruption, but many times if I change the channel, I have to readjust the antenna once more. Of course when it's just right, the cat will come along and rub up against it.

Jan, my condolences for the loss of your husband, that's so sad. :sentimental: I hope things work out for you financially, etc. Wishing you the best.

We have Comcast cable on the bedroom TV, as my husband usually likes to watch movies, the history channel, sci-fi, etc. I don't watch it that much, but do enjoy the nature shows, Animal Planet, My Cat From Hell, etc. We also watch Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, American Pickers, etc. now and then. Lots of food shows, I particularly liked the Chopped series, where 3 chefs had certain ingredients to work with on a time limit, and in the end, only one remained. I hate reality shows like the Kardashians, Housewives of whatever, Jersey Shore, etc.

Anthony Bourdaine was interesting to watch as he tasted foods and visited other countries, and Andrew Zimmern with his Bazaar Foods show was good sometimes. Stand-up comedy is good too, will go 'on demand' and pull up a good comedian now and then. Get a kick out of Fashion Police also with Joan Rivers, she cuts to the chase, lol. She looks very young for her age due to all the plastic surgery she's had over the years, but IMO, I'd rather see her real face, just aging gracefully (like the rest of us). :p

On the regular TV, with the rabbit ears, I like to mainly watch the news, sitcoms and things on public TV like Antiques Roadshow. I also like King of Queens, Seinfeld reruns. Rules of Engagement is a fairly good newer show. Usually watch American Idol and Dancing With The Stars...but lately, I don't even recognize some of the stars, so not as interesting to me as years past. Disappointed in the new Betty White show, since I like Betty so much. But, IMO, it's not that funny, and disrespectful to older folks...could have been MUCH better.

I would rather see one turned loose in the Everglades than to see one coming thru my door. This was on my local news the other day and I assume the woman taking the video owns the snake. She is just plain nuts IMHO.

I would rather be trampled by a herd of cattle than come face-to-face with this; especially if it hadn't eaten for a week or two.

They are multiplying rapidly, and migrating out of the Everglades - heading toward your door!
