What concerns you most about the acceleration of technology?

What worries me about tech acceleration is that the accelerationists seem to only derive satisfaction from "moving fast and breaking things" (as they put it), never stopping to fix anything, never stopping to think about "do I really need to do this? Should anyone do this?" Nope just full speed ahead without a thought in their heads about consequences and even seem to be proud of the fact that they don't think about consequences, that thinking about consequences is for losers and luddites. I've heard this is a common mindset throughout the tech community but especially in the accelerationist sector.

I think too much of that kind of mindset is dangerous.

That's the problem... we don't have the choice to use high-speed rail because that's not an option in the U.S.
The problem isn't one of technology. It is one of funding. It is extremely costly because it requires new updated tracks. High speed rail doesn't do well with corners navigated by the slower speeds the old tracks were built for.

A high-speed rail is underway in the US from L.A. to Vegas. Hmmm ..... I wonder where that money is coming from?

Watching a movie last week with Megan Fox as a household robot for a man whose wife was hospitalized started to freak me out so I stopped play. It was creepy to say the least. I could only guess where the plot was heading. I hope it never gets to that but assume it could. I thought driving along keeping time clapping to the music was upsetting. I also thought a youtube video with Jimmy Kimmel interviewing a robot was unreal.

German automakers and other manufacturers are laying off in droves. Strikes, energy and raw materials shortages, not enough workers, and not enough buyers at home and abroad in the face of severely-tarnished reputations. Not much end in sight because the Ukraine mess and Russian hostility won't end quickly even after the war is over at some point.

same things happening here..has been for ages, no-one want to rush to the USA

We are fast approaching the singularity where technological developments will overwhelm so much of society in a runaway reality.
With the rise of Artificial Intelligence, quantum computing, robotics, self-driving vehicles, and everything becoming automated, it seems we are facing a new reality that we may not be prepared for.
What worries you most about where things are headed?
Ethnocentricity (thinking we as individuals control our own or even society's destiny) concerns me.
It is a waste of time to worry about things we cannot control. Embrace change. Enjoy the ride.

Luigi Mangioni has a BS and MS in computer science. He could have used some kind of robot or drone to kill the CEO and perhaps gotten away with it. Now he's going to spend a long time in prison. Then again, he was into the Unibomber's philosophies, so maybe he turned into a luddite.

The day when terrorists start using technology to kill can't be far away. People have already mounted guns to drones and fired them. They're probably not very accurate, but maybe accurate enough. Come to think of it, the Ukrainian military uses gun-armed drones to go after Russians. There are videos of drones chasing Russian soldiers around tanks and trucks.

So it's just a matter of time before civilians use drones to commit murder.

My latest encounter with A.I.

I just downloaded a PDF version of the manual for my bandsaw. I was scrolling through the manual looking for the blade size.

An AI window popped up and asked if it could assist me in finding the information I needed. I clicked okay and an A.I assistant window opened with a prompt for my question. I typed in blade size, it told me the blade size and the page number. It also suggested other questions regarding what blade width to use for different cutting operations. How to install a new blade and what type of maintenance is required for longer blade life.

Great, but it still has a spooky vibe to me.
