What dental headaches (do you - have you) had?

I have full upper & lower dentures. I am delighted I no longer sit in a dentist's chair.
I manage OK with my fake teeth. I've had this mouthful for about 5 years now.
Eating is not a problem, except for corn on the cob & biting into an apple.
Because so much of my mouth is covered I don't get the full flavor of foods.
Many people seem to be able to tell I wear dentures by listening to me speak. Even strangers on the phone.
My biggest problem has been with the denture adhesive I use.
When I remove my plates, the goop remains behind stuck to my gums.
Each evening I spend a good half hour picking and pulling that mess out. YUCK.
I've tried to get it off with a toothbrush. Sorry, that doesn't work.
I wish there was some sort of solution that I could use to as rinse... that would quickly dissolve the stuff.

What challenges has your mouth been through?

Been very fortunate with my teeth-well,maybe somewhat fortunate and maybe somewhat a matter of being a flossing fanatic since my early 20s. But my dad had really good teeth so I`m sure some of it is heredity. I have had one root canal as an adult, have lots of fillings that I got when I was 14 that have lasted all these years, but have not had any cavities since. Good thing I guess, because the thought of losing teeth is a nightmare for me.

I broke a front tooth just a few weeks ago. I go in next week to have the rest removed and bone graft put in. Then it will be a couple of months before they can put in the implant. It will be costly but ever thing I've read about it say implants are the way to go. At 72 I still have the rest of my teeth so I feel fortunate.

As a kid (mid 1950's) growing up in a small town, I quickly found out that our dentist could not get me numb. He gave me multiple injections, my tongue got numb, my cheek and part of my nose got numb, but not my tooth! When he started drilling it soon got very painful. After that nothing but a severe tooth ache would get me to a dentist! As an adult I realized that this would not work.

Later in life I started working with a 'receptive' dentist that also used gas to numb people (hard to find), he found that with a little more pressure when doing an injection that I would numb up like everyone else. Seems I had some type of layer over the nerves in my mouth, but that area could be penetrated with a bit more pressure, which did not make the injection hurt any more, it just made me numb. Bingo, good dentistry the rest of my life...thank God! I never had to try the gas...

I found out later that my older sister had the same problem, I shared my solution which she then tried with her dentist, and it also worked for her...

I had a Nesbit (partial) made to replace an extraction next to a lower front tooth. After several adjustments, it's fairly useless for chewing because it can slip up and down without using dental adhesive. When at home, I just leave it out, and only wear it when going somewhere. I went out to eat with some people recently, and it worked okay that time, but it would not have without the adhesive. I don't recommend Nesbits to anyone. Get a bridge instead.

I have full dentures, upper and lower. I've had them almost 20 years now, hoping they last the rest of my life.

I had the worst, most nightmarish teeth experiences from the age of 12 to 50, I will spare you all the gory details. I don't mind the uppers too much, but I really hate the lowers, and most of the time I don't wear them. Eating isn't totally easy even with both in, things like salad and fruits (healthy foods, notice!) hurt to eat.
