Just before Thanksgiving, we went for Greek food:
- Grilled Mediterranean octopus with hummus, capers, chopped red bells, and grilled toasts.
- Avgolemono soup (chicken broth, lemon, orzo, diced chicken)
- Cauliflower mezze - Grilled florets, seasoned with cumin and oregano
- Salmon fillet with spicy roasted potato wedges and mixed veggies
- Lamb shank with orzo pilaf
and our favorite dessert,
Galaktoboureko - Filo stuffed with delicious custard cream in a lemon zest syrup, with a cup of good strong black coffee alongside.
Although we don't normally dine out on weekends, our fav German biergarten only serves lunch on weekends. My spouse just tempted me with the suggestion of one of their corned beef Reubens. I promptly said, "YES!"
With extra sauerkraut, of course. And we'll probably get their
Reibekuchen, Potato Pancakes, to go. They make the best ones in Northern CA, with housemade tart applesauce and sour cream on the side. No filler, no egg, no batter - just long thin strands of mandolined Russets, coiled into a mound and pressed to cook on the grill. FABULOUS!
I love German and Polish food, which was easy to get in Chicago. My spouse is from Hong Kong and had never had any of it before. He loved it all from the first bite, LOL. Oh, we'll have to get an apple strudel to go as well. It's his fav dessert at the biergarten.
