What do you buy at the $1 25 store?

I hit it, wishing for a small jar of mayo, was thrilled to find this. Normally buying the big 20+ oz jugs meant a lot wasted. Now it's way less. Plus barbeque lighters for stove. Dishes, flatware

What's your favorite items?
 

Not much. I got some made in USA drinking glasses there a number of years ago, probably seconds but I like them. Tape, tissue paper, hair clips. I don't stop in much. I also got some made in USA socks there years ago I still wear.

Don't find what you used to.
 
I was buying the stainless-steel kitchen drain screens. They've gotten hard to find but they have silicone ones now that are easier to clean and longer lasting.
Greeting cards, plastic storage for food gift giving.
Plant pots to put my sturdier but worn good pots inside to disguise them. You have to the drain holes.
I got some small wire trellises to prop plants.
Sometimes socks for the grands.
 
Dollarama here in Canada is a nation wide discount store, that has their own house brands, made for them by companies that are well known in our country. They don't carry fresh foods, but they do have a wide range of canned foods. Their biggest sellers are low cost kitchen items and cleaning supplies, and kid's toys. My art supplies all come from Dollarama, such as paint brushes, acrylic paint jars, artist boards in various sizes, and glue gun sticks. Their biggest price in the store is $4.99, with most items priced at between .99, and $2.99. So how successful is Dollarama in Canada ? Their stock shares on the Toronto Stock Exchange are trading today at $ 87.98 per share. They have 1421 stores across Canada. I some times buy low priced items at Dollarama, like adult sunglasses at $1.25, and resell them at the flea market for $5 each. JimB.
 
Poundland here , and 99p stores ..albeit that much of the stock is no longer £1 or 99p...

I mainly buy padded envelopes.. Cleaning wipes.. and Batteries.. . Sometimes Paintbrushes if I'm going to be doing a job that's messy enough to throw the brush away afterwards..
 
Calculators, paper clips, envelopes, calendar, etc.
6pk of water, plastic flowers for the cemetery, computer glasses.

It's close by, so I'll make a run may be once a month, or as needed.

I used to go through a lot of cheap reading glasses. Now I wear glasses to correct near and far so I get prescription glasses that are graduated and darken strong light - so no sunglasses either.

Mostly I don’t like anything about our closest one so I only go for one thing - dog leashes which only rarely need replacing. But I find their four foot ones are perfect for the little use they receive. The worst thing about them is the clip at the end can get frozen - corrosion maybe - but that happens to ones you pay much more for too so good enough.
 
It‘s been ages, but I was in one today. They still didn’t have permanent markers at a bigger store so I went to a dollar store. Found a pack of fine line ones there, no regular. Also, I’m obsessed with little containers. Found a few of these, including some very small plastic baggies that are meant for holding craft beads. These are the ideal size for me to toss a few pills into my travel bags.

The reading glasses, yes, I have at least a dozen pairs. I like to keep a set in every room in the house, a set in my purse, a set in the car. I also get disposable foil pans, gift bags, tissue paper, plastic containers and baskets. It is fun place to visit if you just want to get out of the house. I can browse without the need to purchase and sometimes you will find something that might be handy. If I go to the mall, let's face it, we are more likely to spend a lot of money when in reality you don't need a thing.

I wrestle with this all the time. What I've done is stop buying things from the dollar stores just because they're a dollar.
I think other people are doing the same thing. This is opposed to the years long trend of filling our houses with bags of "stuff" we got for "just thirty dollars" or whatever the amount.

I see lots of this junk being sold in my thrift store now as people are cleaning out from those years of China gluttony.
If I can buy made in USA I do. You used to be able to buy lots of things 'not' made in China but now its less and less.

I had an idea years ago to buy up made in USA and start a store. I never did and now I see some beat me to it.
Rare to find anything other than Chinese made even in the thrift stores now.
Estate sales would be your next best source now.

I think its trending that, like you, more people are opting out of dollar stores altogether and some of us are weaning ourselves.
 
I buy gift bags, wrap, tissue paper and bows. Greeting cards for the grands for birthdays, Christmas and seasonal celebrations. I always buy seasonal decorations there (except Christmas) because they’re so inexpensive I can toss them when I’m done, saving me the problem of storing them.

Seasonal window clings, hanging garland and fun signs, sometimes a dish towel or basket or other decoration…right now they have a bunch of Easter stuff.

I also buy some planting stuff there in the spring and summer…pots, hanging pots, other bits and pieces.

Oh! And every Christmas I buy all kinds of fun or useful things for the younguns Christmas stockings!

There is no dollar store where I live. I used to shop at dollar stores often. They were great for cheap things where quality wasn't important. They used to be better; 20 years ago you could get some nice stuff there.

Three pack of different sizes
They're much better and much cheaper than the chip brushes at Home Depot
and
They don't shed
$1.25 ($.42 ea) makes it more palatable to toss after the job is complete

Well. Frozen fruit for smoothies, cookies (those ginger snaps are good!!). Eyeglass cheaters, toothpaste. Actually have really good no salt seasonings. Things like tylenol or vasaline.
