I call it a heel too.

My daughter, on the other hand, in a fit of contrariness, started calling it the butt-end! Her kids have followed suit and that’s the way they refer to it too!

I told her that her loaves of bread are the only thing in all the Land that has two butts! She just looked smug!

Heel. we break them up into small pieces, and toss them onto the lawn....within minutes the birds pick them up.

That's where I used to toss mine, too. But the birds where I live now are mostly bug, fruit and berry eaters. They'd wait till the heels attracted bugs, and then swoop in.
