What do you do during the day to keep from being bored?

Ok folks here is just one example. At Youtube searched with "cliff diving", something I had not looked at in several years. The web changes so rapidly that what one found a few years ago may show much more today. So yeah just saw this event for the first time minutes ago. Much entertainment, good laughs, well video'd, day 3 at the end is best. How can one not be entertained by the sometimes hilariously scary water cliff jumps if one had never watched one of these events before? One of the Yosemite backcountry lakes I backpack into has many airy cliff jumps into deep water. But sans portable boat, the east shore of Kibbie Lake requires negotiating dense brush and willows.

I'm never bored, but I booked a trip to the Caribbean in early February and I'm looking forward to it. My partner is working, so I'm meeting a friend that I used to work with. Hubby told me I should go because when he comes home from work and asks how my day was I seem unenthusiastic. I told him it's not really that, it's just that what I did during the day wouldn't interest him. It's always the gym, the lake, the grocery store and sometimes a movie. Same thing, but I enjoy the predictability and the routine.

My life isn't very interesting to other people since I've retired, but it is still interesting to me!

Wow, it seems that you have a very cavalier attitude regarding this pandemic. I have extended family, several who have died from this insidious disease. I will say that when I finally hook up with a lover, boyfriend, significant other, husband, consort or friend that I will be safe in every way and so will they. I truly hope you make it through and will carry on with a normal life. I will do everything possible to assure the safety of those I love and those I come in contact with. The news networks are politically controlled but from my own experience vaccinations have kept me safe. I have not had an episode of the flu in 10 years because I get vaccinated every year. If you disagree, that is your choice, but don't denigrate those of us who wish to keep ourselves and others safe. I am not a "sheep" my any means nor am I foolish. :) (Well, kind of foolish sometimes. :ROFLMAO:)
 
If any of you are interested, I belong to a site called Academia.com and this is how I spend a good part of my day. In addition, I belong to a Google Group call "Resplendence" created by my dear friend Prof. Chris King, retired Math professor and Department member at Auckland University with research in quantum physics and neuroscience. This group is a discussion group with people of many backgrounds interested in solutions regarding biodiversity of the planet in order to derive solutions that will keep humanity from extinction moving forward.
Here is what the group is about in the author's words. "A group to reflower the tree of living diversity by a paradigm shift in human world views."
Personally, as a very selfish individual and having no children, I don't give a damn about the extinction of this planet and its inhabitants. But, with a more generous mind toward the people I love including Prof. King and friends, I am completely on board with this effort and my contribution to it, however little, for their sake.
 
I’ve got many more miles behind me than I have miles to go. I no longer get bored. I read, download books from-my library, or occasionally buy a book, always looking for ways to stimulate my mind while in the condition I’m in. I spend time on this and other forums, mostly reading what others have written. I have learned I’m not the brightest light on the block so I try to limit my comment. Life is good.

For your info: "In the simplest explanation, the difference between the N95 and the KN95 respirator is that one (the N95) is approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, or NIOSH — the mask-regulating body in the United States. The KN95 is made to meet Chinese standards and isn’t NIOSH-approved. However, both masks filter out and capture 95% of tiny 0.3 micron particles in the air, hence the “95” in the names. One notable feature that differentiates the two is how they are worn: NIOSH-approved respirators (AKA N95s) generally do not have ear loops; They come with headbands to enable a better fit."

So just so everyone is clear, the KN95 is not better than the N95, and only the N95 is approved by NIOSH.

I agree. Many periods throughout my 46 years in the workforce, the days consisted of eight hours of forced boredom. The most boring job I ever had was when I was a CAD draftsman. It was such tedious work that I would check the time frequently thinking that an hour had passed but it was often only ten minutes. It didn't help that I was suffering from severe insomnia at the time. Finally, I just quit and enrolled in the University of Colorado. The economy was in the doldrums at the time and it was really cheap to live, so I figured, why not.

I'm never bored now that I'm retired and can do what I want to do. I have hobbies and a long list of things I want to read. If I find myself getting bored, I workout. And there's always conversation here at SFs. :)
 
Forgot to mention that I listen to podcasts as I twiddle around doing laundry (like), making dinner (like), dusting & vacuuming (hate) and dealing with paperwork (really hate).

My son works for a company that makes the masks.
 
After I have woken up I get prepared for the shock of seeing myself in the mirror....then I do my usual,,teeth...shower etc...coffee of course..shout at the guy giving the news and whatever idiot they may be interviewing....then I come to this site..put in my two cents and then start helping my daughter with the dogs...then I pretty much play the rest of the day by ear...

Last fall I was sick for three months straight, first with the flu, then with bronchitis, then with pneumonia. I couldn't sleep for coughing, I coughed so much I broke a rib and sometimes choked and had trouble breathing. I finally got well in December and I plan to be very careful not to get sick again.




I don't have a medical degree, but I still believe germs cause illness and that one way to get germs in your body is to breath them in. Sure there are other ways. I can still get sick by touching things and then touching my face, or eating food prepared by people who are sick, but I'm going to give myself every little edge I can to stay well, so I wear a mask when I go shopping as well as washing my hands when I get home. I just don't understand why that personal choice of mine gives you negative feelings about me. How is it hurting you?

I'm with you. I had a cold which turned into bronchitis then got hives, I think either from stress or virus related. I really want to go back to the fitness center (I usually go 3 times a week) but I'm so scared of getting sick again. I'm not that afraid of covid, I'm afraid of getting bronchitis again, which seems to be a byproduct of any illness I get. For me, it lasts about 3 weeks and it drags me down horribly. Maybe when I feel my immune system is back up and working at full strength I'll go back to the fitness center. In the meantime, I wear a mask everywhere else.
