What do you do for fun?

Do you have a hobby you are passionate about? Tell us about it. I think a lot of us could use new ideas to get us out of our daily routine/rut. My husband's on a walker so can't do much physical but takes the dogs on a golf cart ride and me for rides in the car. I walk the dogs daily, read, cook, play cards in a card group once a week and do lots of yard work. I'd like to rearrange furnishings, redecorate, but we're limited to doing the physical aspects of it.

Sometimes I think I've been there, done all that in younger days and there's nothing left to look forward to.

I enjoy my adult coloring books, reading, gardening, but I get the most fun out of ripping the house apart. A new coat of paint here and there. rearranging the furniture, repurpose items I have laying around for another use. I was always complaining about not having the strength to move things around, the hubby doesn't seem to have the strength he once had as well, possibly on purpose,lol.lifter.jpg. One Christmas, as a joke, my cousin gave me this set of pads and the lifter shown in the photo. One of the best gifts I ever received. I was able to position the lifter under an arm chair and actually lift the chair and my cousin with ease. Once up you can put the pads under the feet of the chair and slide it with ease. I see the pads in Home Depot. They may carry the lifter as well. I know there is another name for it but can't remember it.

I enjoy working outdoors...yard work, gardening, etc. I also like to fix things...everything from the vehicles to appliances. I hate to spend money on new stuff, if I can fix it for just a few dollars. Then, every couple of weeks we head for a day or two at the casinos, and I play some poker, and hit the slots....once in awhile I even come home with a few dollars winnings.

I ride a bike every day. Enjoy cooking. Meeting with friends for coffee every morning. Looking after my plants. Making cuttings. Starting new plants. Fixing things.

The nights are lonely when you live alone.

We enjoy camping and being outdoors, preferably away from people to have the peace of nature surrounding us. We take daily walks in the park with our dog and enjoy seeing all the other pups having fun. Viewing birds and wildlife is always a big kick for me.

The best time for me is going to zoos. Especially the ones that let you in with the animals. Other than that , just hanging out at home putzing with my crafts makes me happy.

Nice to see all those folks who enjoy working in their yard. I have an idea. If you'll come over and do my yard work, I'll go play golf for you!!!:) I despise yard work. If we could win a lottery, will move into a maintenance free townhouse/condo tomorrow. I've threatened for years to mow once every year... with Roundup!!

As for fun, I mainly play golf. Six or seven days/week, I'm on the golf course early a.m. After golf, when the weather is agreeable, the dog takes me for a 3 1/2 mile walk. Wintertime, my wife and I enjoy playing Scrabble. We have a Super Scrabble board that uses about twice the number of tiles a regular board does. It can take well over 3 hours to complete a game.

Age (84) and health issues (not bad but not as it was 30 years ago) have changed my fun outlook.

Reading, needlework, genealogy research and computer play have always been a constant but what was once most fun was traveling in all its forms - anywhere I wanted to go and in whatever manner I wished. That has ended but I'm not sad that I can no longer do it, I'm happy that I was able to go and make the memories.

What a great gift! If you remember the name, let me know. As it is, I can only move smaller accessories around these days for a different look. I love changing out the seasons with reds and greens in winter and pastels in spring/summer. I'd love to be able to paint the walls, but it requires climbing a ladder. I do so enjoy changes that give a new look.

I could really use one of those lifter gizmo's. I had a hard time moving the sofa off a rug to clean yesterday and this would help a lot. I have the pads but can't get them under heavy armoires to move. I've had to quit painting because of this PLUS having to climb ladders. My balance is not that great these days and the last thing I need is a broken hip.

I enjoy working outdoors, even in the heat. Manicuring my lawn and keeping things trimmed and weeds pulled gives me some satisfaction after I have finished and can sit back and just enjoy the view while sipping on a very cold glass of iced tea with a slice of lime in it.

Mary,It is called EZ Moves. It was right on the gizmo and I didn't see it the first time around. I sent a web page (I hope) Now that you have the name you may be able to get it cheaper someplace else. It takes a bit of time to get it positioned but if you are like me and are intent on moving something come hell or high water, this will do the trick.http://www.problemsolvers.com/ez-mo...MIs4u95dbP1AIV2BCBCh1zYgkdEAYYByABEgLunPD_BwE

Funny, I've never been a furniture mover-arounder. I just put it where is seems best and leave it there, unless it doesn't work. My furniture is in the same places it was when I moved back here. Different furniture in several instances -- new sofa, chair, tables, etc. -- but in the same places.

I like feeding and watering the wild birds. I also enjoy all the other critters that visit our yard. We live next to a state park and have an abundance of wildlife neighbors. In the Spring they bring their young to check the place out. I also care for feral cats. They're all spayed and neutered and have custom built little houses. I have many house plants that spend time outside in the warmer months and are HUGE when they come back inside.

We have flowers and shrubs and a few fruit trees in the yard that I enjoy fussing over. Not much fruit but beautiful trees. lol. Feeding hummingbirds is one of my favorite things. We are lucky enough to live on Long Island, NY. No matter which way we go we'll come to a body of water. We like walking on the boardwalks and breathing in that fresh ocean air. Sometimes we'll take a ride out to the east end of the island just to see how the other half lives. lol.

This has been a fun thread. I have to add coming here is also one of my favorite things. lol.

I ride motorcycles. I have 3 of them (well, 4, but one is for sale). One of them is a collectors item and hasn't been started in 15 yrs. I go to a lot of festivals, fairs, museums and fireworks. I'm thinking of trading one of them in on a bike that's better for longer distances.
I read quite a bit. Most of my reading is learning new things, and that's one reason I like this site.
I'm learning basic landscaping. Out of necessity. Most of the things I planted until recently died; I bought the wrong plants for the location or didn't know how to care for them. I killed a couple bushes by pruning them wrong. And I have 5 overgrown evergreens (weren't pruned correctly by prev owner or me for years) that are now on a 5 year renewal pruning plan.
I'm picking border and foundation plants to fill in after the final renewal pruning. I'm thinking of doing cuttings to replace the bushes I killed.
I'm learning to kayak. I tried to go twice. First time was rained out, the 2nd was winded out - the wind was strongly blowing away from the rental place. 3rd time will be the charm!
I want to go hiking again. Wisc. has some GREAT trails. The glaciers dumped a lot of stuff here, making some awesome terrain. It'll be different now that I've got a cell phone that is a GPS! I'm breaking in new hiking boots.
I like trying new recipes and restaurants, from all cuisines.
