I go camping for a week, sometimes ten days in the wilderness where there are no people.
Rarely, I might go across country to a big city and live the high life for one or two weeks.
Though that option is expensive and does not really offer value for money.

If I don't come home from a vacation exhausted, broke and sick, then obviously I haven't squeezed the last bit of value out of it.

I want to see it all, do it all, eat it all and buy as near to all as I can get without my charge card bursting into flames.

I'll rest when I'm dead. Until then, it's go-go-go. For me, that's what vacations are all about.

I'm getting ready to go to our timeshare on Sunday. I'm taking advantage of a free two night's stay plus some cash for lunch. It's a promotion they run every year (at least this time it's in the summer) during which they solicit owners to come down for the updates on what's new and in the works. Of course they want us to spend more money upgrading to this or that and that ain't happenin'. If I get the same rep I got the last two years, she'll know as soon as I walk through the door.

Anyway, it's ocean front so when I go down, I love to watch the boats or just look at the ocean while sitting on the balcony. I love catching the sunrises and sunsets. When the weather is nice, I get my exercise by walking the boardwalk. Once day I walked almost 5 miles; I walked in one direction...went in for lunch, then walked the other direction. Sometimes I check out the retail shops on the boardwalk. At night I play games on my phone (and tablet) and watch shows or movies on my tablet.

I take the casino bus that gives a slot bonus, so I spend just enough time in Caesars casino to play that bonus, collect my measly winnings, then I'm out. My granddaughter is down there in college, so last time we met at the Tropicana (Casino's) Marketplace for lunch. We plan to do that again on Tuesday. Afterward, we'll likely check out a couple of the shops that are in the casino complex. Then I'll go back to the resort, pick up my luggage and likely take an Uber to Resorts casino to catch the bus home.

During the summer I always loved going to the mountains where it was cooler. Sometimes we would rent a cabin and sometimes we would camp. It was a great way to escape the Texas heat as well as escaping the big city.

I have not been camping since the kids were young enough to go with us and have missed it. During covid I got a tent that attaches to my car and a sleeping bag. This is the year I am going to take the plunge and go camping by myself. I will sleep in the car and do everything else in the tent. I just hope I can set that tent up by myself! :giggle:

I own a 48 acre piece of land outside of Gatlinburg. Nothing around me but mountains and solitude. From the hard road back to my house is 3000 feet of blacktop and you wouldn’t know it was there if I didn’t show it to you. I had it decorated in southern decor because I liked the way it made me feel. Just relax.

wot she said ^^^^^:D

I don't think I'm physically up for a vacay, although I promised my friend in FLA I'd take Amtrak next year for a visit. We haven't been together in the same room for 10 years, when she came in for my son's wedding. I definitely don't want to take a plane. I'm not afraid of flight, I'm afraid of the messes at the airport, and think taking a train might be more relaxing for me, and adventurous.

But, I'm not sure I'm up for it. Spent Friday night at my son's (he called it my vacation!) and sleeping in a different place was very challenging for me, as I get up several times a night just to stand up and get the circulation flowing in my numb legs. Also, am I still brave enough to travel alone? I don't know.

My wife likes sightseeing and shopping. I go along for the ride. There’s not too much in this country I haven’t seen. I would like to spend a week or more between Texas and Oklahoma so I could take in a few real cowboy rodeos.

I would also like to spend a few weeks on the California coast, except for San Francisco. I heard it’s not as nice as it once was when it was called “The city by the Bay.” San Francisco was always my favorite city out there. I liked spending time on Nob Hill and having dinner and staying at the Fairmont and looking out over the bay and the bridge at night. A beautiful site for sure.

I also liked the hotel that had the revolving restaurant. I think it was the Hyatt?

The past two years I went to Europe which was fun. This year I am going to Kansas twice to visit my son. I have done a lot of traveling through the years and don’t like flying anymore. So most of my traveling days are probably behind me.

I haven’t been on vacation for many years.
When I did go, it depended on the place I visited as to what I would do.
I like beach vacations and they are lazy, lie in the sun, swim in the ocean , take naps and eat good food , resting trips. I also love a vacation attending art galleries and places of cultural interest, going to plays or concerts.
These vacations are busy and active ones.

I usually go abroad every year.. sometimes twice a year, and it;s always to a coastal resort, but while there I hire a car and rive to whatever main city is going to be the most interesting and spend a day there ...for example in Malaga city there's the Cathedral, and the Fort , The Bullring ( no bullfighting).. the beautiful port.. and the Pablo Picasso home and Museum...

Sometimes I'll go to an Island like many of the Greek islands and enjoy all the aspects of a coastal town... fishing ports, the boat trips, the wonderful seafood restaurants... the Parasailing etc... love all of that..

Often wherever we are I'll find the mountains and climb them.. one of my favourite things to do.. and discover hidden villages within the mountains with Mama & Papa cafe's and restaurants where it's very common to sit down for a meal and a hen or a peacock will be parked on the seat opposite..

Since my separation, I haven't been overseas ( we had covid and then all the divorce situation).. so 2 weeks ago was my first break away and on my own for the very first time.. but only to a coastal area in the England... and it was fabulous 5 days for me.. I was able to drive many miles along the coasts to different town and areas and take many pictures.

Holidays are what you make it.. I can no more sit on a beach all day every day, like many can....and conversely ... many people wouldn't want to do everything I do either....

I think I’m going fishing in the Bahamas come October if the weather cooperates. I plan on having my boat moved over to West Palm Beach and pilot it to the Bahamas to fish in about 800 feet of water. I would like to catch some yellow eyed snapper. Very good eating.

The last vacation I had was when my daughter was 12 - she's 36 this year. So as my maths isn't up to much, you'll have to work it out for yourselves how long ago that was. :D

Pre daughter, with husband No2, it wasn't sitting around or lying about on a beach.... that would drive me nuts. Visiting sites of whatever country we visited, walking, tramping around in snow (can't ski), enjoying the local quisine, train journeys etc.
Or if staying in the UK canal/boating cruising with the Boating Club we were members of. Always good for a laugh and cruising which ever canals we chose to meander along.

We haven't done the traditional one or two weeks away, for the last twenty years.
What we do is to dress up and cram in just about as much as possible over a long weekend.
We come home exhausted, three or four days is more than enough.
There are so many of these, nostalgia of the past, festivals we are spoiled for choice.

Now that sounds like something that I would be interested in. Where do you move your boat from and what size is it? If you’re fishing down to 800 feet under the sea are you using electric reels? That would be a lot of reeling if you do it manually.
