Yes, the whole theme is fighting (raging against) letting go easily even though the speaker knows it will do no good... some ofWe studied this at college and I may be completely wrong but, I always thought that the reference about their words having forked no lightning, means that they still fight the unavoidable, (even though they are wise enough to know death is inevitable), because they know their lives had no impact on the world.
it seems to be about regret, too... I'm planning to go read it again, too, @Trish !
