What do you need to sleep?

I may be the only one here that takes a sleep aid with melatonin....cannot fall asleep on my own for about 15 years now....tried everything natural under the sun with no results....stayed awake once for three days and felt like I was dying with intense fatigue, nausea, weakness and couldn't even function....happened actually a few times with two days of no sleep.....its the worst feeling in the world.....
have no problems with staying sleeping even with two trips to the potty.

Fresh cold air, yes even in the winter. I have a door in my bedroom that leads out to the deck. Unless the winds are coming directly from the south that door is partly open to -25c. There is no heat in the bedroom either. No TV, etc. In the main room, there is always a window cracked open for fresh air. I heat with a wood stove so that is very needed in here.
Yes, and cuddling is a real joy and necessity here.

😇😇:devilish:

Here at the mountain cabin, nights get cold
Stoke the wood stove
Turn it down
Open the window at the head of the bed

Pillow could be a rock with moss on it
I'm out

I like a cool, quiet room and a warm blanket. Two pillows thank you and no news in the two hours before bed time. A comedy or romantic movie works wonders for my sleep.

My sleep varies greatly. When I overexcersize, I sleep well that night but the following night not at all. A marathoner wrote in his book that is the result of two day lag rule. Don't know why. An electric blanket is very cozy in the winter and helps a lot. My doctor prescribed Alprazolam for sleep. One pill makes me dopey so I only take a half which I guess makes me half dopey. My ex would conk out seconds after her head hit the pillow which drove me nuts as I lay there trying to get to sleep.

I always read in bed for half an hour or so, and eat about 2 oz of dark chocolate and about 6 oz of milk chocolate as I read.
I like a clock that projects the time on my ceiling so I can easily tell what time it is during the night.....I wake up a couple of times, probably as I cycle through the phases of sleep. I also like a night light. I'm a side sleeper and now that I'm older, I need a knee pillow to keep my leg bones aligned....otherwise my hips start to ache.

I have occasional insomnia,so I hear you, gets to be like the zombie apocolypse after a few days...doc prescribed a low dose med,not the Ambien, lynestra stuff, sometimes it helps, usually not.

I prefer cool, dark, quiet with the window open an inch or two unless it's very humid. Light blanket and comfortable pillow and mattress. Sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep so will warm up a cup of milk and sit out on the porch to drink my milk. Then I can go right back to sleep. One thing that really bothers me is when I have a leg or foot cramp in the middle of the night. Puts me in a bad mood the next day.

I have a terrible time sleeping. The room has to be pitch black. I bought black out drapes and doubled them. Next it has to be next to freezing and so quiet the only thing I can hear is my heart beat.
I started taking Ambien a few years ago. I take a half of tablet and it works great for me. When I don't take it I drag through the day. It also helps with my achy legs and knees. I'm probably hooked on it now but if it works I really don't care. It's all about comfort.
It gets me to sleep for about 5 hours, then I wake up but have no trouble going back to sleep.

If it's hot then the room has to be cool enough to be cozy.
If it's cold then the room has to be warm enough to be toasty but not sweaty.
I have 1 or 2 fans running on high depending on the night.
I have to have a couple of my anti-anxiety pills.
On a bad night...all that plus a mixed drink & some melatonin.
I always have some sort of light somewhere in another room so I can see where I'm walking as well if I have to get up in the night.

I enjoyed this topic and the responses. ms gamboolgal and I pretty well line up with alot of the members preferences.

ms gamboolgal and I like to have the room cool, her more so than me. Cool being in the ~70 degree Fahrenheit for. For me it can be warmer but I need to have air moving.

We both want to have air moving and have at least a ceiling fan and normally have his & hers oscilliating fans

Room needs to be dark - we have installed black out insulated curtains to ensure the light does not wake me up.
Normally, we both bathe prior to bedtime.

The right pillow is important - especially for me as had neck fusion done in C5, C6, & C7 about 11 years ago.

At the Compounds overseas we lived at - noise was not a problem and at our home in Texas noise is not a problem also. But we both need to have it on the quiet side.

A lot of nights we will put on Blues or soft rock or jazz music either from our iTunes or from youtube and will have it on in the back ground.

The #1 main thing I need to sleep well - is to be next to ms gamboolgal. When we are apart I do not sleep well. As long as she is near to me and I am holding her I sleep well.

I like it cool and quiet.

I'm a side-sleeper and a pillow-hugger. I read an article once that assigned personality types to sleeping positions, but I figured that was more or less the realm of Sydney Omar.

If the temps get 40° or below I'll fire up my wood stove overnight so as to (a) stop the heat pump from kicking on and making noise, and (b) let the temps in my bedroom at the far end of the house drop to the mid 60s while the rest of the house stays a reasonable temp.

I used to be able to sleep anywhere (crowded plane flight, car rides, etc), but anymore if I'm not here in the secluded country, I carry an eye mask and ear plugs. I don't know how I used to be able to sleep when I lived outside of DC. The sound of the distant interstate was like the constant roar of the ocean off in the distance...it never stopped.

Most nights I need my medicines to sleep, plus the little night light on and the sound machine playing crashing waves. My pillow needs to be fluffed and my sheet and comforter up to my chin.

Also, no other noise to fall asleep. And in the Spring, Summer, and Fall I put the fan on instead of the sound machine. I must have white noise to sleep.

White noise for me too R like the low hum of the fan in the seasons you mentioned.....my bed and pillows are so comfy so that helps....

My husband is the same way; can sleep any time, any place.

Oh, and it's Alfred E. Newman.
Thanks for the correction. It's been years since I looked at those comics. I think they were called "Mad". I bet they don't print them anymore. I used to have a whole issue on country music with a feature on Johnny Cash". Alfred E. Newman it is.

I like soothing music to help me drop off......'76 trombones led the big parade' usually does it.....

My bed and white noise such as a small fan going in my room.
