What Do You Think of Your Next Door Neibor.

My street is all new houses built in 2005, so been living here 14 years. I am almost deaf so don't socialize with anyone but I've noticed that none of my neighbors seem to socialize either, that I can tell. The ones right next to me and across are quiet and keep to themselves, the one on my left are a middled aged couple with 3 kids and they're good and have even checked on me a few times and told me to ask for help if I need it. They keep a couple of junk unused cars in their driveway, but it's their property and not mine. I consider myself lucky with neighbors.
 
We have good neighbors they stay to themselves unless we have a watch meeting.

While I was growing up, my mom threatened to sue our neighbors over all kinds of petty crap, like their tree dropping leaves in her Jacuzzi on windy days, etc. My dad knew she was being ridiculous, but he was too scared to argue with her because she threatened to divorce him & he had low self esteem & thought no one else would want him.
Recently, when half of my tree fell on my neighbor's balcony, I had my arborist take care of it the next day & also told my neighbor to let me know if there was any damage to his balcony. He said, "You're very nice."

Sometimes parents teach their kids how to be decent people by NOT being decent themselves.

We haven't had a good chance to meet our new neighbors as we took for North Narrowlina not long after moving in, but I can imagine they're wondering why the police are at our house so often (the Spousal Equivalent's son is a Deputy Sheriff and comes by frequently to pick up the mail and check on the house). We probably have some 'splaining to do when we get home in October.

I don't miss our old neighbors. The police were there quite frequently hauling someone off and all the 'splaining in the world wasn't going to make THAT better.
 
My neighbor, across the road, sold their place just this last Saturday. They listed it Thursday and sold Saturday!! Been there for 22 years..
 
On the left is Tim & Terry. They have been my neighbors for 24 years. He mows the grass for me and puts the trash out to the curb. I'm indebted to them. On my right is..... . They have lived there over a year. I never have actually seen them, but there's lights on at nite. Across from me is "the deaf guy". I talked with him 10+ years ago. I waved to him as he left his home, about 2 years ago. I could say that my neighbors are stuck ups, etc. ;but I haven't been the "Welcome Wagon" of the neighborhood either. We kind of ignore each other, so we don't start stuff.
 
The couple on my left have 2 teenage sons. He walks around inside his home with a Glock strapped to his side. The first time he put on his weapon, it was like he waited for me to come home and then he approached me to show me his carry permit. Why, I don’t know. They are good, quiet and decent people.

The family on my right have 3 kids in early 20’s. They avoid me at all costs, even though I no longer park my cruiser in the driveway. I don’t understand some people.

I'd welcome you to my neighborhood, 911. The neighbor who feels compelled to wear a gun inside his home, not so much. Sounds like he's got a couple of screws loose.
 
I'm a year-round resident in a 55+village and about 75% of my neighbors are snowbirds. Only have one close neighbor who is here with any consistency and we get along well.

I've always liked the idea of a police officer who brought his work vehicle home living nearby.

Not everyone feels that way. The neighbor that lives caddy-corner to me was out walking a few years ago and I was in front of my home edging the sidewalk. He stopped and said hi and we exchanged a few words. Then, he made the comment that by me parking my state car in the driveway, I may be inviting crooks to attempt a “heist” just to prove themselves. I asked him if maybe he wasn’t watching too much TV. He hasn’t spoken to me since. And, that’s why I say that I don’t understand some people.

LOL - What an interesting perspective this neighbor has.

I live in an area with a fair number of retired law enforcement personnel and a couple of active. Some LAPD, some sheriff deputies, one former FBI and one retired armed services (forget which branch) investigator. It's comforting because these folks have been trained to notice what I don't. They're very good eyes and ears for our neighborhood. Most walk their dogs (or themselves) past my house several times a day. Lucky me!!!
