What do you think the next big technological advance will be?

Bidet's do it without TP, my son swears by them. Get a wash and dry before you flush.
He has not bought TP for nearly 3 years now.

U.S. football has been played and followed by many Americans who have never seen Rugby, from which it evolved. Rugby developed in Britain, the land of its origin. Tennis originated and evolved in France, as did the bidet. Tennis has spread widely in the world.

DW and I travelled a couple times in various parts of Europe, on a somewhat tight budget. We stayed in clean, comfortable but low-cost older hotels. Ironic, but where we stayed in France, none of the bathrooms had bidets, but one place we stayed in Italy did have.

I hear of more and more of them being installed in the US and used in some hotel chains here and there. Not motels mind you.
I guess that covid TP fiasco got the ball rolling.
 

Smoke detectors without having to replace batteries.
Those exist. Sealed units supposed to last about 10 years. We have one, not because we wanted that type, it was all that was available when we needed to replace the old one. It's not quite 2 years old, but I'm not holding my breath that it will make a decade.
