What does a cheek kiss symbolize to you?

I think it is just an informal greeting that some people do. My friends and I tend to hug although a couple do the air kiss.

I was thinking, air kiss on the cheek is a greeting in some countries.

The only humans I actually touch with my lips are my kids (kiss on the cheek) and my DH (kisses everywhere )
